China's Party Chief Tells Army to Be Ready for War
http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=topNews&storyID=6373566

BEIJING (Reuters) - Chinese Communist Party chief and President Hu Jintao has urged the People's Liberation Army (PLA) to prepare for a military struggle, but stopped short of singling out rival Taiwan as the target.

Many security analysts see the Taiwan Strait as the most dangerous flashpoint in Asia. China claims sovereignty over Taiwan and has threatened to attack if the democratic island of 23 million people declares independence.

Hu, who assumed the role of military chief less than two weeks ago, told the 2.5-million-strong PLA to "seize the moment and do a good job of preparing for a military struggle," the People's Daily and the Liberation Army Daily said on Thursday.

Hu did not say against whom the struggle might be fought.

Hu's on first...

2. Oh no ... no fair!
That just distracts us from the terraists everywhere! What are we to do? We are WAY too distracted here, (checking the back yard for turbans every ten minutes) to deal with ... gulp ... real wars concerning major countries.

Can we ask China to wait until we are sufficiantly prepared by our local Minitruth to get behind this kind of thing? Or do we just add them to the axis of weevils and call it a full house?

5. China would get their ass handed to them if they attacked Taiwan
The Taiwanese Air Force is among the most advanced and well-trained in the world. Furthermore, China doesn't really have that much of a Navy to speak of -- and the last time I checked, Armies needed a Navy to transport them in order to attack an island, and Taiwan IS an island.

I really don't know why China is acting so bellicose about all of this, outside of nationalistic delusion. They would have so much more to lose than they could ever gain by attacking Taiwan.

6. Taiwan would be annihilated...
Well trained, equiped, army aside. China would simply overwhelm them.

8. How? They have to get their Army there by means other than magic...
Like I said above, China would have to utilize a paltry Navy to transport its troops to Taiwan in order to stage an invasion.

While your "overwhelming" idea would be quite accurate if Taiwan and China were on the same land mass, the fact is that they are not. And that one singular fact changes the equation completely.

10. I wonder if reducing
the male 18-20 population plays a role in this. Since 1973 the one-child policy has been in effect. Although I've seen little that addresses what by now must be a SEVERE overpopulation of boys, such an imbalance must surely have societal ramifications...

9. China would be smart to get a jump on The Great Game
Now that Internationalism is essentially nonexistant (but still sort of shamming along pretending that nothing has changed, kind of like the Sleepy Sheep Imperial Subjects of Amerika) and The grand Chessboard has been opened up.

Comrade Bush* made the first move towards Totalitarian Tyranny, Comrade and Soulmate Putin has followed up identically, only FASTER (which undoubtedly has the Amerikan Emperor apoplectically jealous).

China has already crushed their people beneath the whell, so they don't have to bother with this phase.

They SHOULD get their piece of the pie, as the Tyrants of Amerika and Russia are doing.

Otherwise, they are going to miss out on the advantage that they have over Russia and Amerika because of the fact that their Totalitarianism is already in place and ready to go!

Putin is almost done and getting ready to jump in.

Bunnypants* is far from finished dismantling American Liberty, but as we've seen, that doesn't matter much since we initiated The New Global Totalitarianism and we have already invaded and seized a strategically important nation.

Given all that, China should get off the stick and fucking invade already!

They must know as well as we that the Imperial Army CANNOT respond, and that they hold so much of our debt they could crash our asses with a word.

11. Hmmm, 1950, commies bad, 2004 commies good?
So since we and China are so intertwined financially, the our "gov't" will scream, pound the deck, threaten sanctions, stop sending Britney posters, maybe even embargo(I doubt it) but at the end of the day, we will do nothing if China invades Taiwan.
The world will be outraged, just outraged I tell you! Oy...puleeeezzzz, do you honestly think we would go to war over this? The world let Hong Kong go without so much as a hick-up. Yeah, yeah, treaty, British agreement, blah blah blah, they are now living under communist conditions, no free elections, no freedom of speech but as long as they are able to make money, a capitalistic zone, everyone looks the other way.
So Taiwan will be absorbed, either via some sort of overnight war or via defacto rule.
As far as our concern, the only reason we still support Taiwan is, oh yeah, the democracy thing, yeah right, it's a strategic spot. In the event of a war with Korea we can base ops there.
So we will saber rattle all the time while we are yawning. Nothing will be done.
