Indo-US joint naval exercises from October 4

NEW DELHI: Indo-US joint naval exercises will commence off the Goa coast from October 4, says a report on Wednesday. In the sixth series of Malabar exercises, the frontline Indian anti-submarine warfare ships will match their skills with the US Pacific fleets Los Angeles class nuclear submarine as well as Ticonderoga missile cruiser and Oliver Hazard Perry class guided-missile frigate.

The US Navy will include long-range maritime and submarine hunter aircraft P3C Orions for the first time in exercises. New Delhi and Washington are in an advanced stage of negotiations on the Navy acquiring ten of these aircraft on government-to-government sales to augment its depleted maritime capabilities, says the report.

At the weeklong exercises, the Indian Navy is fielding one Delhi class guided missile destroyer, one Brahmputra class guided missile frigate, German acquired HDW Shishukar Class Submarine and Sea-Harrier jump jet fighters operating from Goa land bases.

Washington may accede to New Delhi’s request for involving huge US nuclear powered carriers in such exercises, said the report quoting well-placed sources.

Indian Army to get Israeli Artillery Missiles

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani Government has been very persistent in working out a peace policy with India, which includes resolution of all issues including the issue of Kashmir in recent years.

Unfortunately the Pakistani efforts are not met with the same spirit by India. The Indian Government on one hand assures Pakistan and the world community of an equal and similar response to Pakistani initiatives and on the other keeps enhancing its military capability even at crucial times.

Knowledgeable sources say, in a recent agreement with Israel, the Indian Army is all set to conduct trials on two variants of long range artillery missiles after the Lod-based Israeli Air Craft Industries increases their target distance to 450 km from the present 300 km, this will also bring down the conventional pay load from 300 kilos to 250 kilos.

Of the Artillery Missiles

These artillery missiles are mountable on T -90 tanks, which means that India would no longer require Prithvi (nuclear capable missile) on the T-90s because these Israeli missiles will be built to Indian Army specifications for high altitude flying trajectories and have anti-glare and moisture protective systems, unlike Prithvi, which is nuclear capable but has a short range.
