Bush Widens Lead in Some Swing States
Edited on Thu Sep-30-04 02:34 PM by ritc2750
This is the Yahoo! Headline, but the acutal USA Today headline is "Bush ahead in Ohio, Fla. and Pa., but Kerry making gains"

Forgive me if I'm wrong on this one, but isn't the Yahoo! headline saying the exact opposite of what USA Today is reporting? I swear part of the Rovian strategy is to confuse and demoralize the Democats.

14. Didn't you know Rumsfeld is a journalist on the side
Nichols is his pen name:

"There also is good news for Kerry, however. The senator from Massachusetts has reduced Bush's lead in Ohio in the past three weeks and trails within the poll's margin of error, +/- 4 percentage points, in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Among registered voters, rather than only those deemed likely to vote, Kerry leads Bush in Ohio and Pennsylvania."

"Did I just contradict myself? You bet."

I do! Why else make headlines out of gallup polls.

15. This is the key sentence:
"Among registered voters, rather than only those deemed likely to vote, Kerry leads Bush in Ohio and Pennsylvania."

They are spinning the polls by sampling more republicans than are really truly going to vote, according to past behavior. That is how they are getting the polls to come out in their favor. It's the republican motto "If there are numbers to monkey with, then we are the number one monkeys for the job."

5. Rovian strategy is to make the public think the election is close...
... and Bush's to win ... so that when they steal the election, it won't seem so outrageous.

11. I lean to the "steal the election" perspective...
... because I'm thinking that being behind in the polls would motivate Dems more.

Although.... the other thing polls affect, and maybe the most, are the moronic undecided voters... who end up voting based on who they think is going to win -- because they want to be able to say that they voted for the winner. e.g. Listen to this audio clip from AAR's Randi Rhodes Show, where the caller (Bruce from Portland, Oregon) says he voted for Gore in 2000 because "he thought he would win." (audio) Warning: The caller is painfully ignert.

12. Part of the Plan...
If they can keep people wondering -- not knowing for certain who's ahead and who's behind -- it's easier for them to declare victory based on some convoluted math. Kerry Is Ahead! Bush Is Ahead! Kerry is Ahead Again! Who the hell knows?!

7. I don't have a link but
my local paper here in PA had Kerry up 3pts over Bush. I think it was a Ras or a Quinnipiac(sp) poll.

10. Gallup has Kerry up in Ohio by 4% among registered voters
Bush is up in Ohio by about 2% among "likely" voters. Funny how some groups are only reporting the "likely" figure.

16. Because it's their f@cking number. Nothing funny about it.
If I want to borrow a wrench, do I ask my neighbor the hairdresser or my neighbor the mechanic? I'm gonna go with the one most likely to give me what they want, so the repigs are including the people in the polls who are most likely to give them what they want. What else could we expect with the letters CNN attached to the poll?

17. Yes, confusion and demoralization are definitely in the kkkrove playbook.
I remember when a group found out where kkkrove lived and protested his house. I remember his whining about my children are in the house. boo fucking hoo. better his kids find out early just what a scheming, conniving monster he is.

18. It's not Yahoo, it's the dishonest AP
They do this all the time. For example there was a story last week headlined Bush Twists Kerry's Words On Iraq. The headline was up for about an hour until AP changed it to Bush, Kerry Twisting Each Other's Words On Iraq. However the text of the story was still about Bush twisting Kerry's words.

They think we don't notice this stuff but we do.
