Female viewers not swayed to switch votes, but reassured (Seattle Intel.)
Kristen Denger was planning to vote for John Kerry, but she was a little nervous about whether he'd be able to keep her and her young children safe. His criticism of the Iraq war concerned the Bellevue mother of two. But after watching last night's debate, Denger was reassured...

3. It's not just Kristen Denger
It's all the Kristen Denger's around the country.

Start adding them up and you're talking real numbers.

4. Geez did you even read the article?
She's a Kerry voter and the debate cemented her support.

I think this was telling:

"I think it was the first time I'd had a chance to listen to more than blurbs on the news.

To answer your question, YOU ought to give a f*** what Kristen Denger of Bellevue, WA thinks, if you want something other than four more years of fear and misery in this country.

8. Do you know what "anecdotal" means?
It means that these are just little stories from various individuals who may or may not be a representative sample of opinion.

And, no, I don't give a flying f*** what Kristen thinks.

And yes, I did read the article.

11. Yes, I know what it means
And the fact is, Bellevue is freeper central. I spent an entire summer doing volunteer work and being harrassed by freep scum up there.

We ignore anecdotal evidence at our own peril. Democracy works one person at a time--at least it's supposed to, when our votes are counted like they should.

Jesus no wonder people think liberals are arrogant and elitist. With that kind of attitude I'm not surprised.

7. Still amazing how stupid people can be.
------Fighting terrorism is important for the United States, she said, adding that it would be unwise to elect a new president during the middle of a war.------

Nice, anytime a presidunce wants to stay in power just start a stupid fcuking war and assclowns will support you.

Does this stupid Fatemeh know her country is on the liberated ( soon to be blown to bits ) list?

Re-select * and hang on for the ride down the slippery slope of death.

16. I don't get it.
If the media did its job, I think we'd have a lot less Fatemehs in this country. There's a difference between rank stupidity and simply being uninformed. I'm gonna go against popular opinion around here and say I don't think most Americans are stupid. The knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing freeper contingent, while vocal, is a minority.

Sometimes I think people are just too tired and take the go along to get along approach. I used to know a lot of folks like that who, while agreeing with the progressive stance on issues, were burned out just trying to make it day to day. The only news they get is the 2 seconds of world affairs inbetween the shooting of the day and 15 min sports reports on the local news. I say "used to" because 9/11 forced people around here to get informed--living in the #1 terrorist target in America will do that to a person. My cousin who is a Dem but completely apolitical (he's the type who follows who JLo is married to this week but has no idea what's going on w/ public policy), got broadband just so he could go online more to check news. One of my old co-workers, a staunch "what's the use, they're all scum?" type, called me up the other day out of the blue and asked me how she could register to vote. I asked her why she was suddenly getting involved and she said, "Bush scares the shit out of me."

Michael Moore said it best: this is basically a liberal country. But I'll add that this is a liberal country with a bad case of battered spouse syndrome. Repukes know this, and this is why they do everything in their power to control the message and keep people from voting. I get mad when people start spouting talking points but instead of screaming at them and calling them sheeple (I hate that word) I ask them WHY they think that way, and more importantly where they got their info from. 99% of the time it's either TV news, Rush, or one of the local right-wing rags. I start pointing out where those things are wrong, and direct them to blogs and other alternative media, and they go quiet. It's like a lightbulb turns on. I consider myself a reasonably intelligent person, and the 2000 selection was when I had an epiphany that TV news is really, really messed up. It was when I heard *'s cousin works at Fox and was the one who called Florida for him. That totally floored me, and it continues to floor people I tell now. I've seen this a lot while doing grassroots stuff the last couple of years. A lot of people just don't realize how badly they're being manipulated by TPTB, or that they're being manipulated at all, and it's scary. It's not because they're stupid. It's because it's how a lot of them were raised, and well in the distant mists of time, the media actually DID do its job. I think things starting to change, though. People like Fatemeh notwithstanding, I think folks are beginning to wise up--look at the number of people who saw right through the junta's attempt to divert attention from the DNC by upping the terra alert. Notice they have rarely played that card since then, at least not in so obvious a manner.

My mom keeps saying the media punditocracy will be in for the shock of its life come Nov. 2. I think she's onto something.

19. "it would be unwise to elect a new president
Edited on Fri Oct-01-04 07:18 AM by Ravenswood
during the middle of a war"

Some people don't seem to get that this is exactly what the Bush administration is counting on. The above statement sends Bush the message that it's okay to be a sh*tty president as long as we're at war.

This "security moms" thing gets on my nerves. I'm still skeptical about whether it's as big a phenomenon as the media is making it, but I have a question: why can't these women see that a president who repeatedly puts his political ambitions ahead of the country's welfare doesn't give a rat's ass about our children?

I'd like to start a new group called the "Uninsured Moms." Uninsured moms are among the long-term unemployed, or are struggling in a cycle of unemployment, and we are *not* voting for Bush because we cannot adequately provide for our children in an economic climate that is so hostile to the middle class and to average workers.

Bush isn't "protecting our children" - his economic policies are going to drive most of them into poverty.

20. So-called scared or indecisive voters are getting on my nerves....
like their precious votes are so much more important than anyone else's? Yes, we need their votes, but their so-called reasons for being confused or unsure are maddening. I'm sure somebody with infant children doesn't need to worry about the draft, so I hope that the so-called "security moms" stop pushing the panic buttons all the time. :eyes: :)

If they are STILL unsure and scared now, then I say buck up and learn to be AWARE of issues so you don't have to be so scared. Do some research, don't be such frightened little rabbits. :)

when they actually hear him and not the media spin and attacks. people need a chance to hear him directly. and unlike with bush who they usually show saying something himself, they usually spin what kerry said rather than show it.

Podunk, USA (no offense to Bellvue, I'm mostly speaking of rural red state areas) getting all whipped up over "being protected from terrorists".

Why are people who are actually LIVING in the danger zones, i.e. Large Coastal Cities mostly leaning democratic, while people who live in the middle of nowhere and whose threat of attack is slim to none are all gung-ho on f**ing "SECURITY" and use it as an excuse to vote for *.
