And the winner is... Edwards!
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/10/05/opinion/polls/main647648.shtml

(CBS) John Edwards continued the Democratic ticket’s winning streak in Tuesday night's vice presidential debate. He was judged the winner by uncommitted voters who watched the debate, just as John Kerry was last week.

Forty-one percent of these uncommitted debate watchers said Edwards won the encounter, while 28 percent chose Vice President Dick Cheney. Another 31 percent thought it was a tie.

-----

The North Carolina Senator is better liked than the vice president, with 82 percent of the men and 72 percent of the women saying they would like Edwards personally. Half of both the men and the women said Cheney was likeable.

Just in case anyone wondered...

24. ROFL!! I think they'd like go to a ballgame & have a beer with Edwards.
Definitely someone you'd enjoy having a round of golf with, so, yeah, I can see the high favorability rating among men. Women, too! ;-)

5. Yeah, but that's an online poll--one we helped rig. CBS's poll
is a scientific sampling of uncommitted voters. They are the ones we want to influence, and they say Edwards won by close to 2 to 1.

I still think the online polls are a significant sign.

15. Unless you were clearing cookies
and voting more than once per site as they do at FR, we didn't rig any polls. We voted.

18. thanks for saying that.......
i don't agree with those methods. Why a DU'er would say that we "rigged" polls. I haven't seen one thread that asks us to vote more than once, and if a few people did that, then that's on them. I would prefer not to be counted in the collective "WE". I voted once in each poll, and I'm pretty sure that most DU'ers did the same.

19. I voted in some of the online polls -
and I only voted once - could have felt able to vote twice as my spouse would have voted the same way, but did not.

21. Not really...... if you count those that called it a tie
More people called it a tie than said Cheney won. If you add the tie votes with the Cheney votes Edwards didn't win by 2 to 1. Still the majority said Edwards won so that is good. ABC had a similar poll and it was reversed.

13. Every poll I've gone to has Edwards as the winner
Now Freepers given as much time & resources as us, yet polls going Edwards way. Also noticed after I voted on CNN (Edwards winning) they took the poll down & replaced it with a poll about something totally different, and this was only a few minutes after the debate ended. With all the news that came out today about Rumsfield & Bremer, Cheney seemed to have no real explanations as to what was really going on in Iraq. "Tricky Dick" thats how he came off to me. I thought Edwards did a great job.

26. I think Edwards will look better as time goes by too.
Last night I thought it was pretty even, right after the debate. But this morning, the thing I thought of was the closing statements. Edwards was optimistic, hopeful, intelligent and forward looking - like Clinton usually was. Cheney pulled out the old dour terror, terror, terror line - in other words depressing, fear-mongering, and backwards looking. I think the contrast will work in Edwards favor.

Also, Cheney's obvious lies about never meeting Edwards will really stick. It is the kind of lie that people can easily relate to. It has a bit of a biblical resonance too - "I swear I never met the man", which may work at a subliminal level.
