CNS News: Cheney Meant to Say 'Factcheck.org' - OOPS!! HAHAHA!
Cheney Meant to Say 'Factcheck.org'
By Susan Jones
CNSNews.com Morning Editor
October 06, 2004

(CNSNews.com) - Bloggers are buzzing about the fact that Vice President Dick Cheney mistakenly referred viewers of Tuesday night's debate to factcheck.com when he meant factcheck.org.

The 'factcheck.com' website Cheney mistakenly mentioned was established in February -- updated in September, according to the WHO IS registry of domain names -- and it redirects viewers to a George Soros website, titled, "Why We Must Not Re-Elect George Bush."

In a "personal message" on the redirected factcheck.com website, George Soros, the wealthy funder of liberal causes, says, "President Bush is endangering our safety, hurting our vital interests, and undermining American values."

Factcheck.org, which checks political rhetoric against the facts, is run by the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania -- and among other things, it explains how Dick Cheney has been falsely accused of having continuing financial ties to Halliburton. (He is receiving deferred compensation as vice president, for earnings dating back to his CEO days.)

At least at factcheck.org some of these folks might see where bush/cheney have manufactured spin about Kerry/Edwards.

4. I was *wondering* why CBS was putting such a pro-Cheney spin...
... on the FactCheck.org's take on Cheney. It's CNS! Isn't CNS a Bozell/right-wing organization?

Besides, if you check FactCheck.org you'll find that they are much more critical of Cheney's debate statements than Edwards'.

5. I knew he said the site with wrong address
but I never knew it was a Soros site. Oh God this is great. This makes me laugh out loud. I can't wait to see some toons about this. Cheney told everyone on national television to go to an anti-Shrubco site. If you believe in God, fate, karma, or what have you, this should be a sign, when the lizard king makes a gaffe like that.

7. Can we say "Freudian slip"?
I'm sure the pun-sters out there can come up with an even more apt description.

6. Even so, Factcheck.org has mostly unflattering stories on GOP
The only one that cuts their way is the analysis of Cheney's "deferred compensation" from Halliburton.

9. I know, it's amazing that even if Cheney had given the url he meant to
people would have seen

1 story critical of Kerry
1 story critical of both Kerry and Bush

and

4 stories critical of Bush and the Repubs
