Iraq in talks with rebels as suicide bomb kills 16
Love the Iran quote. Will Shrub let Iran join the coalition?

A suicide car bomber killed 16 people at a National Guard center in western Iraq on Wednesday as U.S. and Iraqi forces struggled to quell insurgents bent on derailing elections due in January.

An Interior Ministry official said the bomber targeted recruits for the paramilitary force in the town of Anah, 260 kilometers northwest of Baghdad, near the Syrian border.

Iranian President Mohammed Khatami said Wednesday that his Islamic regime stood ready to help neighboring Iraq as it struggles to retake rebel enclaves and restore government control nationwide.

"We are ready to help the Iraqi government restore internal security without interfering in Iraq's domestic affairs," Khatami told reporters at a news conference here, wrapping up a three-day visit to Sudan.

1. Somebody needs to follow the hands of Negroponte in these....
...so called terrorist bombings and attacks in Iraq. I think we would be very shocked at how much disruption he is instigating over peace talks.

2. This is better than science fiction
Will bush allow Iran to send troops into
Iraq only months before he plans to invade Iran?
Course not.

3. How come there were no suicide bombings when Saddam was there
Should we put Saddam back?

4. Not surprisingly
the Iraqi people have said - they WANT Saddam back - they prefer him to the American's way.

And to answer your question - we all know Saddam ruled with an iron fist, I seriously doubt anyone would dare try on the one hand, and I guess things there weren't so bad as the Iraqi people themselves never rose up against him. Well, the one time when Poppy Bush told them to and he would protect them and they did and we split and did nothing to help them.

5. Right,
Aren't security and stability more important than a messy, under-gun-point democracy?

To Iraq or any tiny chaotic countries, I think that might be the case.

6. I don't really understand your post
Yes - security and stability is important - and before we illegally invaded Iraq - they were secure and stable - doing things their own way and the way they were accustomed.

The Iraqi's know as well as most of us - Bush/Cheney invaded for the oil and to steal Iraq's resources. One reason and one reason only. It had nothing to do with "liberating" the Iraqi people, and the rest of the world knows it. In fact everybody seems to know this except for Bush/Cheney* supporters. You CANNOT liberate anyone at the barrel of a gun.

By the way - welcome to DU :hi:

7. Oh brother
I totally agree with you.

G W Bush made a stinking mess out of Iraq and should be punished by losing the presidency!

8. There actually were..
Edited on Thu Oct-07-04 02:00 PM by Aidoneus
this misconception comes up sometimes, but is actually quite untrue. The Iraqi party al-Da`awa in fact pioneered the tactic as it is known in modern fighting..
