Dems Object to Airing of Anti-Kerry Film
WASHINGTON - The Democratic Party and 18 senators are objecting to a broadcasting company's plan to air on 62 TV stations a critical documentary about John Kerry (news - web sites)'s anti-war activities after he returned home from Vietnam three decades ago.
.......
However, Sinclair's Hyman said, "The documentary is just a part of a special news event that we're putting together. We've invited one person to be a guest. That's Senator John Kerry." The company posted a note on its Web site Monday afternoon urging people to call Kerry's headquarters to urge his participation.

Chad Clanton, a Kerry campaign spokesman, said, "Everything is on the table but it's hard to take an offer seriously from a group with such a fierce partisan agenda, a group that's clearly not interested in the truth."

Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe said the company was acting as a mouthpiece for the Republican Party rather than a legitimate news outlet.

"In this election cycle, they have put their money where their right-wing mouths are," he said. "Sinclair's owners aren't interested in news. They're interested in pro-Bush propaganda."

8. Who are these stalwart 18
Democrats? And why aren't the others objecting? These are both rhetorical questions.:)

2. I think the Dems should say that they want the movie
about Kerry Up the River or whatever its title is shown right after the anti-Kerry film. The movie about Kerry would be the answer to the anti-Kerry film.

It's fair to have film vs film.

5. He's already lost a shot at the Best Documentary Oscar
because he chose not to submit F9/11 in hopes of getting it on TV. But he can still win the Best Picture Oscar as there is no restriction about showing it on television within nine months of release as there is for the documentary category.

10. Democrats Seek Probe of Anti-Kerry Broadcast

<snip> The Democratic National Committee plans to file a complaint with the Federal Election Commission that alleges that the documentary "Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal" is an illegal in-kind contribution to President Bush's campaign. Many of the stations the Baltimore-based company owns are in critical "battleground states."

Meanwhile, the Democratic senators have asked the FCC to investigate whether Sinclair's plan was an improper use of public airwaves. <snip>

11. <snip> Meanwhile, Michael Moore is close to inking a deal with ...
... pay-per-view giant On Demand to bring "Fahrenheit 9/11" to television on Nov. 1, reports TV Guide Online.

"The Michael Moore Pre-Election Special" will consist of a screening of "Fahrenheit 9/11" and interviews with "politically committed" celebrities who will discuss the charges leveled in the movie and the importance of voting. <snip>
