Vote by poor may skyrocket this year (Seattle P-I)
Political experts cite big registration drives in low-income areas

As the resident dean of the Crest Mobile Home Park in North Seattle, Wayne Nelson knows plenty of families struggling to keep food on the table.

Voting can seem like a pretty useless exercise when there's a stack of unpaid bills on the kitchen table; he knows that from his own years of supporting a family on a cabdriver's wages.

"Politicians seldom do what they say they will, and I think that's one of the reasons I didn't vote for so long," the 59-year-old disabled retiree said. "I just didn't think one vote would affect the things I was dealing with in my life."

Nelson's work with hungry people at a Greenwood food bank motivated him to become a voter a few years ago, and recently he has been registering his neighbors. But for someone who lives on a little more than a $10,000 a year, he is the exception.

1. I street canvass low income people everyday in SW Ohio
They are registered, now we need to close the deal.

I hang the TWO-FACED graphic on utility poles in the innercity on streets with really dense sidewalk traffic. I also use the graphic to initiate conversation. People love it AND they ask me for copies.

2. Higher turnout is bad news for Bush
The Republicans try mightily to hold turnout under 50%, because they know that on their best day they control no more than 25% of the voting population. But they're very good at making sure their people get out and vote, every election, every time.

Poor people getting to the polls is extraordinarily bad for the Bushistas. Look for record numbers of challenges and allegations of fraud from the Republicans.

3. Few, if any, of these folks ever get polled - and they are voting for JK.
This year, major polls are going to be more inaccurate than ever before.
