Ky. Senator: Rival's Staff Jostled Wife (Bunning claims wife black & blue)
keep in mind....many people think Bunning has Alzheimer's

FRANKFORT, Ky. - Sen. Jim Bunning (news, bio, voting record) said his wife was "black and blue" after his opponent's staff physically assaulted her at a summer picnic — a charge his rival called "outrageous."

Bunning's comment followed his debate with Democratic State Sen. Daniel Mongiardo Monday, in which Bunning apologized for having said Mongiardo looked like one of Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)'s sons.

The baseball Hall of Famer then demanded an apology from Mongiardo for allegedly spreading false rumors that Bunning's health was failing.

The jabs continued after the debate, as Mongiardo's campaign criticized Bunning for using a TelePrompTer as he debated via satellite from Washington.

"The unbelievable part about this is that when we went to Fancy Farm, my wife was black and blue from their staff or someone connected with the Mongiardo campaign — absolutely running into her," Bunning said.

Bunning also said he and his staff had to defend themselves from the staff or supporters of Mongiardo. "I couldn't even speak on radio or television because of their unruly, unbelievably bad behavior," he said.

2. having said Mongiardo looked like one of Saddam Hussein sons
This stupid comment alone should send him packing. I find it outrageous. He can't go any lower than that. Fucking asshole.

Mongiardo should have punched him in the nose for this comment.

"Mr, Mongiardo, you look like one of Saddam's sons"

"Oh yeah? (knocking him down with a punch) What do you look like now, senator? Next time you say I look like one of Saddam's sons I will beat the shit out of you, you fucking asshole!"

3. This happened at a summer picnic and Bunning is bringing it up NOW?
When he is under fire for his flaky behavior?

"The unbelievable part about this is that when we went to Fancy Farm, my wife was black and blue from their staff or someone connected with the Mongiardo campaign — absolutely running into her," Bunning said.

Does anyone in Kentucky have the "skinny" on this charge? Maybe his wife "choked on a pretzel" after imbibing the "punch" and fell down?

they are disgusted with Bunning. I have been precinct walking for several months now and have experienced the shift away from Bean Ball Bunning.

13. Well I can tell you this
Rumor is that Bunning's mental state is deteriorating. This ludicrous charge makes him look even more unstable.

11. Seems that Bunning is in the grip of some debilitating disease
Bunning's protestations about his health aside, the reports at Kos indicate that he's suffering from some kind of disease or mental disorder. If not, he seems quite determined to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, as being a Baseball Hall of Famer would seem to be an easy ticket to victory practically anywhere, and maybe more particularly in Kentucky.

The silly picnic charge - no name, no description, not even a definite affiliation - is just out of (no pun intended) left field. Deep left field.

But Bunning is endangering a seemingly safe Republican seat, so I'm okay with it. He's got outstanding health care coverage for the rest of his life, a couple of pensions, and so while it's a shame he may have some debilitating disease, he'll have more resources than 99% of Americans to deal with the disease and its consequences. He just doesn't need to be in the Senate anymore.

16. Dem.Funds arrive....
Edited on Wed Oct-13-04 05:29 PM by Lostnote03
....just in the nick of time....it's sad that it took so long for assistance from our national oversears to arrive....KY could have been in play sooner....the Bluedogs may not like Kerry but they are tired of Bush....the Bunning/Mongiardo vote WILL be a referendum on the policies of the Bush administration.....the Mongiardo campaign falled to emphasize the connections between Bunnings Lapdog performance in the U.S. Senate and the overall policicies of his cult of personality, formally referred to as the GOP.....the tightning of the percentage points between Mongiardo/Bunning coincide with the falling numbers of the Bush campaign.....a little bit could have gone a long way and forced the GOP to redirect funds to what was perceived nationally as a slam dunk....these are the thoughts of an individual with a trunkload of Kerry-Mongiardo-Chandler signs.....Best Wishes and good luck in the waning moments
