BAGHDAD, Iraq - Two Army helicopters crashed in southwest Baghdad late Saturday, killing two soldiers and wounding two others, the U.S. military said.

The 1st Cavalry Division said the cause of the crashes, which occurred about 8:30 p.m., had not been determined.

Names of the dead and injured were withheld pending notification of relatives, but U.S. officials said they were assigned to Task Force Baghdad.

The U.S. military has lost at least 27 helicopters in Iraq since May 2003, many of them to hostile fire, according to the Brookings Institution.

does anyone know if these would have been Blackhawks? I know the mom of a Blackhawk commander (she's one of the SistersSpeakOut.com moms), but I don't know which unit he is in. He has something like 50 helicopters under his command.

Not to mention two small daughters.

edited now that I see Oz's post. What makes you say that? the number of people involved? (I know nothing about these things)

4. Well, as our fearless leader says, "Freedom's on the march"
Damn Bush and the horse he rode in on. This has been a helluva month in Iraq and Afghanistan. May Bush's God forgive him for what he has done.
