Racine - Laura Watson didn't think twice about marching up to Daniel Wyatt and introducing herself when he caught her eye in an art class at Racine Horlick High School in the spring of 2001. "I thought he was hot," Watson recalled Thursday. "And I'm not shy. So I just went up to him and said, 'Hi.' "

The encounter launched what became a true romance. But their blossoming relationship came to an abrupt end this week when Watson received word that Wyatt had been killed in an explosion, just a month into his duty as a U.S. Marine Corps reservist in Iraq. He was 22.

"He proposed to me at eight o'clock in the morning, and at eight at night, 12 hours later, he got the call. "I was bawling my eyes. I didn't want him to go," his fiancee said Thursday. When asked for her own view on the war in Iraq, she declined to comment.

1. Thanks Saigon-its true
the cost of war is so painful and the cost is lost on our country-the war isn't real to most Americans-some other person's kid is doing the serving and dying-it is indeed Biblical our pride and pride goes before the fall except those that pay for the fall are the Daniel Wyatts of the world-Shrub will have his million dollar ranch to retire to

2. I am so sorry for all of the lives lost, ruined and destroyed
lives never lived, children never born, children never knowing the fathers, parents burying the children, empty chairs the world over, caused the the feckless and reckless policies of this maladministration.

I weep for them all.

RIP Daniel
