Testosterone Patch Hailed As Female Viagra
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=541&ncid=751&e=7&u=/ap/20041019/ap_on_he_me/female_viagra

PHILADELPHIA - Menopausal women had more sex and were happier about it when using an experimental hormone patch hailed by some as a possible female equivalent of Viagra, doctors reported Tuesday.

Women on the testosterone patch had sex about four times more than they usually did in two months compared to only one additional session for women given a fake patch containing no hormone, a study found.

Those who got real patches also reported more arousal, pleasure and orgasms, and had better self-images.

"We found an increase in activity, an increase in desire and a decrease in distress," said Dr. Robin Kroll, a Seattle gynecologist who reported results of the study Tuesday at a meeting of infertility specialists. The research was sponsored by Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals, which is developing the patch, called Intrinsa, with Watson Pharmaceuticals Inc.

6. Viagra...
... does not increase sexual desire in men one bit, it merely facilitates it :)

Testosterone often does increase desire in women (well, in men too).

It's no real surprise, it's been well known for a while. But it isn't anything like "viagra" because women don't need a... whatever.

40. your GF needs a different doctor, not just a GP
She needs an ob/gyn who is aware of what can be done for female lack of desire. Low dose testosterone is available now by prescription and it really makes a big, big difference for some women. The patch is already on the market, and there are also pills available if she thinks the testosterone patch is too "experimental," although it isn't, it has been around for at least a decade.

Watching porn won't help if the hormones are screwed up. But, yeah, you know that.

Nothing in life is without hazard, there are also health hazards to celibacy. Here's hoping things take a change for the better.

16. if this is put on the market, will Insurance Companies cover this the same
Edited on Tue Oct-19-04 03:53 PM by Heddi
as they cover Viagra?

Probably not---because "female sexual dysfucntion" is seen as a menal issue, not a physical or physiological one.

However, ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION? Hold the fucking train! That's a national emergency. New York Times Reports that Lack of Hardons causes cancer, distended anus, rattly teeth, mis-matched eye-colour, general malcontent. Also, erectile dysfunction has been linked to clocks running 6 minutes and 8 seconds slow, car-keys being rendered inoperable, and the variable speeds on the blender from working properly. WE MUST FUND VIAGRA. THE UNIVERSE DEPENDS ON IT

What? Female Sexual Dysfunction? oh, who cares about a dry old cooter? Maybe if those women would just start dressing pretty and wearing some sexy long-ger-ray they'd get sexual. Either that or put some ky in that scratchy slot and read the paper while your old man gets his 4 hour erection. Feh. Who cares about wimmen and their "ooh but I can't get aroused now that I'm post menopausal and have vaginal dryness and signs of endometriosis". Fuck 'em (which is what Viagra allows us to do!)

Of course, there are still insurance companies who cover Viagra, but don't cover birth control methods of ANY kind (no pills, no depo, no patch, no cervical ring---nada).

---

I guess I shouldn't be so cynical because at least this is being DEVELOPED....which has been long overdue (as are many other women-specific ailments which continue to go ignored by the medical and pharmaceutal companies).

Sigh.

We've come a long way baby...well, not "come"...but pretended to.

24. I am not sure that testosterone is safe for women
Testosterone is a powerful hormone and it could have long term adverse effects on women. Remember that this research was sponsored by Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals, the same company that is trying to market the drug. Remember all of the research sponsored by Big Tobacco that told us that tobacco was safe.

38. Think of how much more dangerous HRT is than first thought
Hormone Replacement Therapy was just "replacing" natural female hormones, so the medical community didn't take its potential harms as seriously as it turns out they should have. There is a lesson in there, too.

29. Viagra is now being offered in liquid form.
So that your man can pour himself a stiff one.

A woman telephones her doctor complaining of recent growth of body hair after testosterone treatments.
"I told you there would be some side effects like new hair growth," said doc.
"I know,"replied the distraught woman,"but since it began on my chest it seems increasing in growth further downward."
"Alright,"said the doc in a concilliatory tone,"how much further down has it grown?"
"Well," she said "its almost to my balls."

There is no lack of desire among women for a close, meaningful, mutually nurturing relationship that includes physical contact--

There just are too many men who want free sex that by bad hygiene, health, attitude and mental illness totally gross out the woman. Plus, it takes effort.
