Cheney Calls Kerry's Hunt a Cover-Up
Edited on Thu Oct-21-04 04:06 PM by steve2470
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/C/CHENEY?SITE=FLTAM&SECTION=POLITICS&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT

SYLVANIA, Ohio (AP) -- Vice President Dick Cheney poked fun at Sen. John Kerry's goose hunting Thursday, arguing that the image of the gun-toting, camouflaged Democrat was an "October disguise" that masked his voting record against gun rights.

Just hours after Kerry shot a goose during an early-morning hunt in Boardman, Ohio, near Youngstown, the vice president told supporters in another part of the state that the outing was nothing more than a photo opportunity to hide the four-term Massachusetts senator's record.

18. Thanks for the link - Kerry Campaign should use one of these
two quotes from article:

"I don't see anything terribly wrong with it, but I don't think it should be confused with hunting," said Sid Evans, editor in chief of the outdoor magazine Field & Stream. Shooting pen-raised birds, he said, "is a great way to train dogs, and it's a great way to educate young hunters."

"Something here doesn't add up," said David Wade, Mr. Kerry's spokesman. "The Bush administration says the economy is improving, but their millionaire vice president has to hunt for his own food."

10. God, I hate those Cheney people...all of them.
Lying Liz, porn author Lynne, 'murica's shyest Lesbian Mary, and can't open his mouth without making an ass of himself - Dick.

No slimey smear is beneath them. They have zero honor or dignity.

If I'm on the road and decide to go swimming, I have to buy a suit if I didn't bring one, right? Dick, does that make me a non swimmer?

Can't they EVER acknowledge ANYTHING? If Unka Dick wants to chide JK for taking a 'hunting' opportunity to appeal to sportsmen, that's fine, that's fair and probably even true. But they can't stick to the truth, they have to LIE and DISTORT.

Yeah, Dick, JK watched his very first Red Sox game ever last night, I'm sure you'll work that in before the end of the day.

15. Not a wise move on Kerry's part. Won't change NRA minds....
and opens Kerry up to ridicule. It has been talked about every hour today (along with Teresa's remark) on CNN and Novak can't let go of it, like a rabid dog. Begala missed an opportunity to bring up the Dick hunting with Scalia and Dubya bird hunting every fall in South Texas with his Poppy and other politicos.

The Greens and Naderites (esp the vegans and PETA splinters) are upset that Kerry is "killing" his own "meat", but then like the NRA folks, they aren't moving towards Kerry either. I just hope this doesn't become a "Dukakis in a tank" image for J.K.

25. Hunters aren't NRA nutbags. Showing he is a hunter deflates
the accusation he is knee jerk anti gun. The reason why the righties are incensed is because it works, not because it doesn't. They are trying to shore up the hunters who are likely to be swayed.

26. Not for NRAers
It's for sportsmen who could give two hoots about the stupid NRA. Believe it or not, there's alot of sportsmen who think militia types are nuts. They're also worried about the habitat and whether they'll even be able to hunt in Bush's America. That's who this was aimed at and it'll do just fine with them. And like you said, anybody who gets in a tizz about killing a goose for dinner isn't likely to vote Kerry anyway.

They support Kerry on economic and trade issues but like their guns.
Yes they are NRA members, but don't buy in to all the Wayne LaPierre BS sent out by the NRA.

And, if you're worried about ridicule, you're too late. The NRA has been running their "poodle" ads throughout the battleground states for three weeks now.

53. Somebody posted here that poodles were bred to be hunting dogs!
I mentioned seeing the NRA's poodle ad here in NC and somebody told me that the NRA obviously doesn't know a poodle from their a$$e$ because standard poodles (the ones shown in the ad) were bred as hunting dogs.

I do not know if this is true or not but I was highly amused by it.

... campaigning? Goose-hunting is big in Ohio in October. It sure ain't my bag of tea, but I don't think Kerry should avoid things he enjoys just because people make ignorant and partisan mischaracterizations.

39. If he's good enough to kill 2 birds with 2 shots, he's a hunter,
not an opportunist.

http://www.commondreams.org/headlines03/1215-07.htm

In October, Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts, a Democratic presidential candidate, blew two pheasants out of the Iowa sky in two shots of his 12-gauge shotgun, a display meant to show his prowess as well as his support for the rights of hunters and an assault-weapons ban. Mr. Kerry downed the birds in a cornfield, not at a private club.

Not all the Greens are upset about this - in fact, I'd be surprised to find any Green that I personally know against this. Most Greens I know, including me, are voting for Kerry.

52. I disagree with your assessment
I'm about as close to Green as green can be, but I fully intend to vote for Kerry. I've known for a long time that he likes to hunt. Canada Geese are all over the eastern U.S. and lots of people have been hunting them. If Kerry killed a fox or wolf I would be cross with him, but he's welcome to kill as many Canada Geese as he likes, since their natural predators were killed off by Dick Cheney types and the geese are now overpopulating. It's better than rounding them up and gassing the poor creatures, which is what the corporations and gated communities do around here because they've become pests (the geese, although the corporations and gated communities are pests too imo).

It doesn't seem to have occurred to the talking heads that Kerry might have gone hunting BECAUSE HE ACTUALLY ENJOYS HUNTING AND IT WAS AN OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE A BREAK FROM CAMPAIGNING.

Some people criticize Kerry no matter what he does.

59. Cheney's record vs Kerry's record (Cheney sure is STOOPID!)
You'd think Cheney would know well enough to KEEP QUIET when it comes to Senate records; his is beyond "DISMAL". But nope, he cuts his own throat;

CHENEY'S 11-year record;

96th Congress: 4 Sponsored; 0 became Law

97th Congress: 4 Sponsored: 0 became Law

98th Congress: 8 Sponsored: 0 became Law

99th Congress: 7 Sponsored: 1 became Law

100th Congress: 7 Sponsored: 1 became Law

101st Congress: 1 Sponsored: 0 became Law

A total of 2 bills passed into law.

Bill Frist, the Republican Majority Leader;

Sponsored 88 bills in the 108th Congress and zero have become law.

In the 107th Congress, Frist sponsored 52 bills and 1 became law. It was a bill to authorize and urge the President to promote democracy in Zimbabwe.

John F. Kerry;

For the 108th Congress sponsored bills by Kerry 48, for co-sponsored 436.

For the 107th Congress sponsored bills by Kerry 146, co-sponsored 467.

For the 106th Congress sponsored bills by Kerry 63, co-sponsored 473.

For the 105th Congress sponsored bills by Kerry 40, co-sponsored 268.

For the 104th Congress sponsored bills by Kerry 92, co-sponsored 233.

Total of 58 bills sponsored by Kerry passed into law.

http://kerry.senate.gov/bandwidth/issues/legislation.html#

And just WHO VOTED for the LARGEST DEFENSE CUTS???

Why, it was Cheney the Dick! SurPRISE surPRISE surPRISE.
