Whitman Denies White House Told Her to Lie
Washington Post

Former Environmental Protection Agency administrator Christine Todd Whitman denies that she was told to lie about health risks in Manhattan after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

An EPA inspector general's report said Whitman assured the public that the air was safe to breathe before tests were conclusive.

Whitman told Newsweek that she did not object to the White House editing out cautionary notes from EPA scientists and said the public was not harmed by the White House decision to use reassurances about air quality right after the attack.

Emergency workers have said the EPA failed to warn them of the hazards. But Whitman said the agency advised them to wear protective gear, although many refused. ---

1. The POINT Is NOBODY SAID the AIR was DANGEROUS!
NOBODY! And Where was the EPA to Protect the citizens for harm!

I hope when the many deaths come Whitman can get forgiveness for what she allowed the Bush Administration to do!

12. This is absolutely right
It doesn't matter if she was ordered to say it's OK to breathe asbestos, and human remains, concrete and God knows what else, or of she took the initiative. It shouldn't have been said.

4. It's called responsibility
When you assume a cabinet level position, you assume the responsibility for executing the duties of that office for the American People who pay your f*&king salary

Those cabinet positions aren't honorary positions. They are there to serve the specific needs of the public.

Christie...by letting the White House edit out those words, you betrayed the public trust

11. Meanwhile, how is the asbestos bill doing in Congress?
You know, the bill that is supposed to limit awards to asbestos victims, and protects corporations such as Halliburton.

13. If it's not lying, then what exactly is it that she did then?
lying or with-holding information are pretty much the same thing. i sure can't wait for that Repugnant convention to be held in new York. By then they will have wished that they never chose New York for their little Klan rally. Who knows, they may change the venue by then to somewhere in the deep south where their support will never die.

14. she WAS asked NOT to tell the whole truth. that's lying
whitman is splitting hairs here. she can honestly say that she was not asked to lie, but what else can it be when she was asked to leave out data that would change completely the intent of what she did say?

dante' had a special place in hell for her likes.

17. She didn't have to be asked to lie
That's why W picked her to head the EPA in the first place. Loyalty to the repug cause was much more important to Christie than the stinking environment.

18. Oh so im sure we are supposed to say Okeydoke! and move on huh?
The Bush team and the GOP have too much riding on the Republican national convention for this story to break..Oh did I say the republican national convention? I ment the GOP'S " Horray for 9/11!" Party..Starring George " My polls were in the dumper till i forgot about that terrosim report and let that happen..After 9/11 i could walk on water! Thank you terrorists!" Bush..
They will do anything to make sure that SOMEONE BESIDES BUSH will take the fall for this whos out of the GOP loop and Whitman seems like a perfectly good goat when this thing bulids up..Never mind that Bush handpicked her, Nevermind Bush HORRIBLE war on the envronment, Nevermind the fact that LORD KNOWS its not the first time Bush has kept things from us, Nevermind the fact that there is a HUGE asbestos bill trying to get passed by Cheny and Co. , Nevermind the fact that bush wanted to LIMIT the 9/11 investagation, Nevermind the fact that the GOP would rather spen 120 million taxpayer dollars ivestagateing a humer and just 3 million dollars to find out what happend on that day..And the list goes on..
The EPA knew, and someone in the white house knew too!!
It looks like ONCE AGIAN the press is giving bush ANOTHER free pass on this. How embrassing to be an american

24. repulsive
Emergency workers have said the EPA failed to warn them of the hazards. But Whitman said the agency advised them to wear protective gear, although many refused.

Talk about blaming the victims! I doubt that "many" would have refused to wear protective gear had they been informed of the hazards.

I wonder if those hardhats at the site are chanting "USA" now? Seems like the "USA" screwed them royally.

25. I'm Certain That Nobody Actually Said "You Go Lie, Christie"... So...
... she can make that claim and still be 'truthful'. But she's no idiot, and she knows what they wanted and what their intent was and what the outcome would be.

She's just a culpable as any of them.

27. Absolutely!
I agree with you 100% Allen.

I am sure that there are a lot of her old staff at the EPA who are having to bite their lips dozens of times a day right now.

No one told them they would be shot if they didn't shut up, they just passed around a picture of Mr. Kelly and Clark Clifford dying and asked if they 'got the picture?'
