TROY | MT Picture Display Corp. has begun notifying workers of layoffs looming at the company's picture tube plant in Troy.
Spokesman Greg Tatusko declined immediate comment, saying the company needed to finish meeting with employees.
Chuck Cochran, president of the Troy Area Chamber of Commerce and the Troy Development Council, confirmed Tatusko told him Tuesday the company would be dismissing workers over the next 60 days. Cochran said Tatusko did not go into detail about the cuts.
In late August, Miami County's largest industrial employer had about 1,150 permanent workers, of whom about 210 were salaried, and about 100 temporary workers.

Cochran said the four did not discuss the Troy plant specifically. He said the tone of the meeting was guarded and not "overly optimistic," but not negative. He said a potential closing of the Troy plant was not discussed, but added that "doesn't mean it won't happen."
