If Electoral College Fails, House Decides

If Electoral College Fails, Dumbya remains in office!

One near-certainty in this election of many uncertainties is that if the Electoral College (news - web sites) can't pick a winner, George W. Bush will stay in the White House. That's because the House of Representatives is and will probably remain in Republican hands.

2. What if Repub House is defeated by Democratic House.???
The New Representatives would not take office until January. Who would decide then? The old Repub House or the new Dem House? ??

5. That's the point - we're probably not going to get the House back.
It would be the new House of Representatives, and while it's not out of the question to win it back, it'd be very, very difficult.

12. It doesn't matter
According to Amendment 12, the House votes state-by-state. Wyoming delegation thus has as much voting power as New York or California.

15. And of course the VP is chosen by the Senate
If we had a Dem majority, that would be very interesting.

4. This has never made sense to me.
If the electoral college fails, it would only be logical to then look at the popular vote. If the popular vote were then magically a tie (what are the odds?), then I would understand the need to send it to the HoR. Why were our founders so quick to jump from electoral college to HoR, skipping the middlemen (the people's true vote)? (Don't answer that, it was just a rhetorical question.)

7. That would work this time, but...
I don't want a few population centers deciding who's President. Everyone needs to be represented.

9. I may be all wrong here...
...and please correct me if I am, but doesn't the house vote by state delegation instead of by individual member? If this is indeed the case I don't know who would win. Perhaps one of you does.

10. That's correct
It is by state delegation.

And Bush would win that way, too.

14. That's what I was thinking
All of those rocks and cacti would get the same vote as NYC. It's nuts.
