Bush website blocked outside US

... The blocking does not appear to be due to an attack by vandals or malicious hackers, but as a result of a policy decision by the Bush camp...

Never mind, I'm on the other internet...

1. I can get it in Canada...
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 12:12 PM by nine23
However, I feel bad for the millions of ex-pats living and/or voting from overseas being kept out of the loop...

By the way, I hang out with a huge group of US ex-pats down at my local(pub)in Vancouver, and they haven't had any problems either. They're all EXCLUSIVELY Democrat; you'd surely hear from them if they had any problems.

7. That's okay. Bush is a bad spokesman for our country anyway. I'd rather

them not see his bullcrap, also. It's embarrassing to our country. Maybe the real reason that they've blocked his website from outside our country is to keep from further embarrassing our country.

8. It Has Been Blocked At Least Partially for a Long Time
I reported on it in my web log months ago, last June in fact; while many overseas could still get them, many reported them blocked:

http://www.blogd.com/archives/000671.html

From that post:
I have never been able to visit the official Republican web sites, specifically http://www.rnc.org, http://www.gop.com, and Bush's campaign site, http://www.georgewbush.com. Every time I try, after about a minute of waiting, I get an error message, "Operation timed out when attempting to contact...." I have tried from work, at home, and using a variety of browsers, but each time, the attempt times out. I have been trying this over a period of many months--always the same result. In contrast, the DNC web site and the Kerry campaign site are both readily accessible.

I eventually discovered that the RNC, GOP, and GWB sites were all being managed by the same server site (using the same DNS info, namely NS1.CHA.SMARTECHCORP.NET 65.172.162.66 and A.NS.TRESPASSERS-W.NET 209.61.172.168), explaining why they all were blocked together.

Can You See GeorgeWBush.Com? If So Who Is He Today?

A Special Interactive Edtion

Boy do we have a job for the thememoryhole.org. If the following hypothesis is correct then the world wide weirdness we call internet propaganda and media just got a whole order more complicated.

Is the official GeorgeWBush.Com '04 Campaign website set up to deliver different messages depending on where you are and which phone company you use? Initial indications make it look as if it is.

12. no problem from here in Canada
but when I try it as

http://www.ec.com.my/webproxy/nph-proxy.pl/010110A/http/www.georgewbush.com

I get

Access Denied
You don't have permission to access "http://www.georgewbush.com/" on this server.

You too can be blocked if you try it through the proxyized url above, I imagine. ;)

14. There used to be "anonymizers"
on the web, where you could surf anonymously without the javascript trackers on the specific page being able to track your place of origin or ISP. I don't know too much anymore about them, as it's been about 4 years since I used one last. But if those who can't access these horrendous sites of propaganda want to try and see if the anonymizers are still around, try going to http://astalavista.box.sk/ and start looking for the link to security and "anonymizers" if it's still there. As I said, it's been awhile since I checked it out, but they might still be out there and working. If that link doesn't have it, try googling specific for "browsing anonymizer" to see what it gives you.

15. they are also called public poxie servers
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 08:31 PM by OutsourceBush
you bounce off of someone else's servers.

I suspect that they were being attacked by just about every country for being such sh*t heads. The only way they could keep the website up was to block most of the free world.

16. DING DING DING DING We have a winner
That might just be the point. There's a whole lot of people who hate Bush who are outside the jurisdiction of U.S. law enforcement. I reckon they suppose they can nail anyone here who attacks the site.

If I'm right - and I suspect strongly that this is the correct assessment - then it's another revealing insight into the foreign policy of this administration.
