Signs Point to Imminent Showdown in Iraq
BAGHDAD, Iraq - An uptick in airstrikes and other military moves point to an imminent showdown between U.S. forces and Sunni Muslim insurgents west of Baghdad — a decisive battle that could determine whether the campaign to bring democracy and stability to Iraqcan succeed.

American officials have not confirmed a major assault is near against the insurgent bastions of Fallujah and neighboring Ramadi. But Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi has warned Fallujah leaders that force will be used if they do not hand over extremists, including terror mastermind Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

14. All this will do is make matters worse. Turn Iraqis against each other.
Bush feels that he has to do something spectacular even if it's wrong.

18. Will Bush declare Mission Accomplished ! ?
Maybe a victory parade in NYC on Monday before the election.

I feared that pResident Cheney would order a Falluja assault if things were not going well near the election.

2. I feel like deja vu
Haven't we done this to Falluja a couple of times already? When will Bush and Rummie get the hint that they can't bring freedom and democracy to a place when you continue to bomb the shit out of them?

3. "showdown between U.S. forces and Sunni Muslim"
Like this was some kind of god damn winner take all football game or something. It's no wonder that the west is losing ground to Islamic fundamentalism with this kind of simplified shit reasoning. Sure thing we will "force Zarqawi's hand", on the contrary, they will run the sorry asses of the US out of the place on a rail.

4. Fallujah, like Yusufiyah, is largely abandoned
When we "take" Fallujah, we'll find no high-value targets. But there will be a concomitant increase in attacks in the rest of Iraq.

5. Who are they trying to bullshit with this "Zarqawi" crap?
No one in their right mind believes Zarqawi is in Falluja, no one. Most people are coming to the realization that there is no "Zarqawi", at all. So is this shit only for US consumption or is there a befuddled, dense, and willfully ignorant population somewhere else?

The media is being spoon fed this shit by the mis-Administration and they gobble it up mindlessly and defecate it back out their collective mouths to the public and 1/2 the sheople just eat it up as if was a banana split.

8. Sunnis to boycott elections if Fallujah attacked
Sunni clerics urge boycott of Iraq elections in wake of Fallujah siege

By Hannah Allam

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Iraq's largest group of Sunni Muslim clerics ordered their followers Wednesday to boycott January's parliamentary elections if American forces don't break off their military campaign in the flash-point city of Fallujah, which is now ringed by U.S. Marines and besieged by daily aerial bombardment.

10. I awaken from my reoccuring nightmare and ask- Why are we in Iraq?
Don't tell me. Please don't. All of the facets are obvious. The most important, and perhaps least obvious one is the scariest- Our display of might. Not only have we not displayed who "their daddy is", but we have proven that we are not the might that we once were. Oh, shit. That's perhaps the biggest loss in this mess, besides loss of life.

I love the posts in this thread. Great stuff. Especially the picture of that dog pissing on the Bush poster. YAY! Piss on Bush. Piss off, Bush.

12. How much attention is the average joe
paying to the reports out of Iraq?

I'm asking seriously, not being in the US to judge for myself.

I do remember during Vietnam, reports became very much background noise after a while. People just turned their heads off. There was a war in Vietnam. I think there were people who thought the principle product of Vietnam was war.

Have people become complacent about the Iraq situation in America yet? If they have, this is just going to be one more news story about it that they will have to sit through before the sports news comes on.

15. You can bet the Admin. will get CNN to spew out night pictures
of all the bombing....it's way more fun to see the night bombing, all that green...hides the real destruction and blood.

Maybe Sunday .....it's about 6 times zones ahead of the East Coast, isn't it? So about 2 pm in the middle of every football game or whatever, you'll start getting this news and then they'll cut away to the bombing and people will eat it up....

16. Ah - thanks.
I have not seen American news coverage in seven years, so it's hard for me to envision just what they might do. Things have certainly changed and not for the better.

19. I bet there's going to be carnage in Iraq...........
.......... before the election.

But, I think it's going to be Americans getting slaughtered. I think the insurgents are going to make a real big show of what a mess Bush has made in their country, and they'll use Americans as the targets.

it's what I would do if I were in their places.

21. You are right
Most of the main Force Resistence has melted away, to fight another day.

There will however be a lot of US casualties from boody traps IED's etc.

Lots of soldiers & marines will lose eyes and legs for Halliburton Profits and the Bush Criminals.
