Caroline Kennedy tells Bush to stop invoking JFK
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20041027/ts_alt_afp/us_vote_kennedy_bush&cid=1506&ncid=2043

<snip>
"It's hard for me to listen to President Bush (news - web sites) invoking my fathers memory to attack John Kerry. Senator Kerry has demonstrated his courage and commitment to a stronger America throughout his entire career," she said.

"President Kennedy inspired and united the country and so will John Kerry.

"President Bush is doing just the opposite. All of us who revere the strength and resolve of President Kennedy will be supporting John Kerry on Election Day," Kennedy Schlossberg said in a statement.

<snip>
"The party of Franklin Roosevelt, and Harry Truman, and John Kennedy is rightly remembered for confidence and resolve in times of crisis. Senator Kerry has turned his back on 'pay any price,' and 'bear any burden,' and he has replaced those commitments with 'wait and see,' and 'cut and run,'" Bush said.

We won't have to endear to much longer. Maybe one more week. Kerry will win by a landslide.

they had him paraphrasing it over her video image. Same thing they've been doing a lot lately to diffuse impact of a democratic "moment".

10. I heard Bush's shameless invoking of FDR, Truman and JFK.
This is the same Bush who is more than happy to trash Caroline's Uncle Ted at every available occasion.

Let's be honest. George W. Bush is a plutocrat, an advocate of highly regressive tax policies that award a payout to the rich, even in a time of job losses and ongoing war. What the bloody hell does he have in common with a real wartime leader like FDR?

And let's not even get into the contrasting social policies. Please!

And Bush flees any admission of error or responsibility, unless he can claim credit for something (usually something he opposed outright at first, like the Department of Homeland Security). Contrast that with JFK and Harry "The buck stops here" Truman.

Good for Mrs. Schlossberg for having said that to Bush. I hope he takes it to heart...

24. There's nothing inherently wrong with invoking JFK
There's something incredibly wrong and insulting, however, for George W. Bush to invoke JFK.

You, sir, are no Jack Kennedy, and in fact you represent the antithesis of his ideals, as Caroline more eloquently observed.

50. I was listening to a Nightwish song when I registered on DU
It is the end of all hope
To lose the child, the faith
To end all the innocence
To be someone like me

Mandylion without a face
Deathwish without a prayer
End of hope
end of love
end of time
The rest is silence

I was in a slightly gloomy mood too, as far as the election was concerned. If I could change the username now I probably would.

36. Kerry had a good chance to slam Bush
During one of the debates, The Shrub started blathering about Reagan. I was waiting for Kerry to turn around and say "Mr. President, I knew Ronald Reagan -- and you're NO Ronald Reagan."

I guess he either didn't think of it, or felt it would be too cheezy. It probably would have been, but I wanted to see the Shrub get slapped down anyway.

38. It does the heart good...
to see children like Ron, Jr. and Caroline speak up for what's right and good in this country. Though they had privilege, they also have had the burdens of being the children of politicians - and they have evolved into intelligent, independant thinkers. We can also be proud of Chelsea Clinton, who has conducted herself so well. It hasn't as much to do with 'party' as it has to do with integrity - something sorely missing in the * 'dynasty'.

19. Jackie went out of her way to protect Caroline and John, Jr....
from the legendary Kennedy political influence. I would be quite sure that Caroline finds Bush most repugnant in the invocation of the use of her father's name. Caroline has remained very much in the back row. If Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg feels so strongly that she has been drawn closer to the field of battle in this year's Presidential contest it is surely due the idiocy of Bush; she must feel truly insulted.

With all due respect and support for Caroline as very descent human being who has heard too much nonsense from Bush!

worthy of carrying a bucket of John Kennedy's spittle. Bush is such a loser and trying to compare himself to the brilliant and courageous JFK is a pathetic joke.

33. Yep, I don't think she's ever come out in this way.
I also find it interesting that her major work on privacy, A RIght To Privacy (co-written with Ellen Alderman), was published just about five years before Ashcroft and SS started stealing our rights to privacy. A slap in the face. We are extremely divided.

We should just split up the country proportionate to the true count results of this election. God willing, we'll have a true count
