CARE International has closed its operations in Iraq, the charity said in an appeal for the release of its kidnapped director there.

Margaret Hassan, 59, a citizen of Britain, Ireland and Iraq, was abducted on October 19.

CARE's London office issued this statement in English and Arabic:

"CARE has closed down all operations in Iraq. Please release Mrs Hassan to her family and friends in Iraq."

The charity said it would have no further comment.

In a video aired on al-Jazeera television, Hassan appeared and again pleaded for Britain to withdraw its troops from Iraq. She also asked CARE to close its operations in Iraq and for all Iraqi women in prison to be released.

1. And tomorrow Cheney will say,
"You see, things are going so well in Iraq, we don't even need charitable organizations. they are packing up to go home. Nothing left for them to do. Now, that's victory."

It is sad that people who give so much are the ones who suffer the most.

Care and Docs without Borders are GREAT organizations. IN comparison, the leaders of the US Red Cross is a bunch of overpaid, pampered, dilettantes with little or no use for the ones who need held
