US is losing Iraq war: Powell
Edited on Mon Nov-01-04 08:38 PM by highnooner
LAHORE: Secretary of State Colin Powell has privately confided to friends in recent weeks that the Iraqi insurgents are winning the war, Salon.com quoted Newsweek as having reported.

The insurgents have succeeded in infiltrating Iraqi forces “from top to bottom,” a senior Iraqi official told Newsweek in its Monday’s issue, “from decision making to the lower levels”.

25. I hope he retires quietly somewhere so I never have to see his face
again. He played with those devils, he deserves to go down with them.

6. No way this leak is an accident.
I have to think this is a deliberate leak on Powell's part. He's trying to warn America.

9. Here's anMSNBC - Newsweek link:

SNIP

For months the American people have heard, from one side, promises to "stay the course" in Iraq (George W. Bush); and from the other side, equally vague plans for gradual withdrawal (John Kerry). Both plans depend heavily on building significant Iraqi forces to take over security. But the truth is, neither party is fully reckoning with the reality of Iraq—which is that the insurgents, by most accounts, are winning. Even Secretary of State Colin Powell, a former general who stays in touch with the Joint Chiefs, has acknowledged this privately to friends in recent weeks, NEWSWEEK has learned. The insurgents have effectively created a reign of terror throughout the country, killing thousands, driving Iraqi elites and technocrats into exile and scaring foreigners out. "Things are getting really bad," a senior Iraqi official in interim Prime Minister Ayad Allawi's government told NEWSWEEK last week. "The initiative is in hands right now. This approach of being lenient and accommodating has really backfired. They see this as weakness."

since everything is going so "brilliantly", as that damn fuggin Cheney said. There is mention of the eight (nine) Marines that were killed and how.

14. Powell is a disgrace but...
Edited on Mon Nov-01-04 09:32 PM by Disturbed
sometimes he is correct. He will never admit to his lying at the UN. the closest he came was to say that he was given bogus intell. He knew damn well that the garbage he spewed was from the OSP, a group he jokingly called the Gestapo. He is still viewed by most ignorant Americans as a great statesman but researching him will tell a different story. He is nothing but a Right Wing lackey and has always been such.

15. It's about time...
An attack of conscience perhaps? It just confirms what everyone has suspected all along - he's definitely the odd man out in that demonic wolfpack. I just wish he'd had the cajones to speak up sooner - what does he have to lose (his life, perhaps!)? He's not coming back should (heaven help us) Nero Bush get re-elected.

The war was lost the moment you dumb fucks decided to invade Iraq. We told you the only way not to lose was not play the game. But did you listen. Nooooooooooooo. Now you may end up in Leavenworth with your fellow criminals for an extended stay. See what you have gone and done now?

23. What do you mean by "US is losing Iraq War"?
We lost the war already! The only thing that remains is for someone in the White House to tell the American people the truth and to bring all of the troops home, immediately and unconditionally.

I hope a President Kerry does not repeat the same mistakes of his arch-enemy Richard Nixon, and tries to win a victory in an unwinnable war. History could repeat itself!

To "spend more time with his family", just as Hughes, O'Neill, Whitman, et. al. have.
