KABUL (AFP) - An American soldier was killed and two others wounded when their patrol was attacked by "enemy forces" in southeastern Afghanistan (news - web sites), a US army spokesman said.

"It was an incident early this afternoon in Paktika province between a US patrol and enemy forces," Major Mark McCann said.

"As a result, one US soldier was killed and two were wounded," he said, adding he had no further details on the incident.

The wounded soldiers were evacuated to a United States medical facility in Khost province and were in a stable condition, McCann said.

2. Eerie feelings...
I'm very worried that Afghanistan - where dumbass should have focused the war on terrorism - is about to spiral out of control.

4. The appearance of"control" that we hear of from Afghanistan is a mirage
Western forces were never in "control" of anything accept for the capital of Kabul. And even that has been tenuous. The warlords and opium traffickers run the rest of the place.
