14,000 Florida "Felons" Barred from Voting

The Herald-Tribune of Southwest Florida reported this morning that 5000 GOP "poll watchers" will be stopping people at polling places if their names are on a list of 14,000 "suspected felons." This is the same list that was discarded by Florida's State Department in July because it was full of errors, including the strange lack of 1000s of Hispanics (Cubans and others often vote Republican). The Herald-Tribune and other papers have found people on the list who say their voting rights have been restored.

2. Will the GOP be stopping white guys in Texas who used to
work for a little company named Enron?

This is absurd. Why didn't the people in Florida demand this problem get fixed since last time? I hope the people who are stopped take a camcorder and have evidence this time around.

6. I don't mean to say that I wish I was in Florida or on one of those lists
but it would go very profoundly badly for someone who tried to stop me from voting based on an erroneous list.

I would probably end up on the felony list by the end of the day.

13. In Florida, a challenge WILL NOT prevent anyone from voting
The challenging party must fill out an avadavit and supply evidence to the challenge. The party being challanged may fill out an avadavit claiming their right to be able to vote. The voter will then complete a provisional ballot. The provisional ballot along with both avadavits will be forwarded to the canvasing board. If the canvasing board overrules the challenge then the vote WILL BE COUNTED.

19. Then what they are
really trying to do is slow down the lines so there are less people able to vote. The next repug who tells me about patriotism is going to get punched! And I am a 63 year old woman. It is not patriotic to limit voting rights.

20. Actually, even that won't work
If the challenges become burdonsome to the polling place, the chief of the precinct can stop them.

I will give the Florida legislature a bit of credit in the wording of the challenge procedure laws. Strikes a pretty good balance between voter's rights and candidate's rights.

15. Cowards, all of them.
They can try this crap but it won't be enough. Even if they get every one of those 14,000 votes thrown out - and they won't - we've registered enough voters in FL to more than make up for it.

Forget the weather reports; It'll be BLUE skies in the sunshine state this year.

16. So true; the good Floridians who have waited four years
(like the rest of us)to get rid of the little tejas fascist aren't going to allow thugs to keep them from voting.

17. What we need to do
Edited on Tue Nov-02-04 02:49 PM by kwolf68
Is have someone who has already voted go in there babbling incoherently about Kerry...and while he is getting "questioned", other voters can just slide on through.

Of course, this man would have to be a black person, not dressed well...and in fact if he "looks" homeless the better. Then after rustling with this "bum" for an hour or so, the guy can just flip his REAL id out...His name legit and is no felon, he has a job and is gamefully employed...and oh yea, I voted earlier beotch.

18. Doesn't work that way
The pollwatchers can not talk with the voter or the election agent. They may only have communications with the precinct chief. If it becomes a burden on the precinct, the chief may cancel the challenge on the spot.

21. Lots of people have the same name. They're gonna have to have SSN's to
prove that the voters are not who they say they are. The burden should be on the accusers to prove the voter is trying to cheat.

I hope people are taking pictures and videotaping all the repuke racism going on in FLA. Trying to keep legitimate voters from voting is 100% pure TREASON!

25. Their not legal what?
(Sorry, I was making fun of your English.)

The possibilities that you point out are not the problem in Florida. Do some research on what happened there in 2000.

Then get back with us.

27. What we really need here is a bunch of really, really....
....large husky, mean, intimidating black guys in dark glasses to challenge white voters in the "upscale" parts of Florida.

That would stop that shit real quick...
