Group Challenges Sinclair Licenses!!!!!
Poor babies!!! They are getting an enema now!!!

WASHINGTON — A Massachusetts-based nonprofit group on Monday filed a petition with the Federal Communications Commission challenging the license renewal applications for television stations owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group in North and South Carolina.

The challenge to license renewals for six Sinclair stations and two owned by a closely affiliated firm, Cunningham Broadcasting, came after the firm was embroiled in national controversy over plans to air "Stolen Honor: Wounds that Never Heal," a film that is highly critical of Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John F. Kerry of Massachusetts.

SNIP...

The challenges by the nonprofit group Free Press are the first in what some expect to be a series of such actions involving Sinclair-held licenses as they come up for renewal in the months ahead. Sinclair stations in Florida are up for renewal in January. Licenses are granted for eight-year periods. Executives of Sinclair, which owns or controls 62 broadcast outlets across the U.S., could not be reached for comment Monday.

SNIP...

"Sinclair is the poster child for abuse of the public airwaves," Josh Silver, Free Press executive director, said in a statement. He charged that the company had engaged in practices to evade FCC regulations by "combining a unique blend of self-serving, right-wing ideology with lawless behavior that requires the FCC to take action." The challenge to the licenses could trigger public hearings, which have been requested by Free Press. It could be several months before the FCC makes a final decision.

7. Challenging Their Licenses Will Fuck Their Stock Even More
Station licenses are the only really valuable asset they have.
If they start losing those, all they've got are a few buildings
and some old broadcasting equipment. That would turn Sinclair
into a penny stock real fast.

...Strong SELL Recommendation....

4. ...and you can too!
Visit www.fcc.gov to learn how to petition your local Sinclair-owned station for non-renewal of license.

Here in Wisconsin, all TV stations come up for renewal about a year from now, so I'll be filing a petition around next summer.

The FCC cares* whether or not you're a regular viewer of the station in question, so it's best to limit your complaints to stations in your own market.

*As much as Colin Jr. will let them "care" at all about your complaint, but next year, who knows?! :)

5. Let's not forget their advertisers!
Can we re-post the list of Advertisers to boycott? I read somewhere that they ran "Stolen Honor" last night? If that's true - outrage!

9. Better Hope to Hell They've Got Some Moneybags Standing By
Because if there are no good guys lined up to buy the stations, a license pull is only a temporary measure, at best. A useless one, at worst.

11. I would think an enterprising local operator
Edited on Tue Nov-02-04 03:53 PM by JellyBean1
would be in the the best position to make an offer to a bankruptcy trusty for the assets consisting of a radio tower, broadcast equipment and studio equipment. You know, it is better to not to have to remove and reinstall electrical apparatus.

Then after obtaining the assets of the defunct Sinclare Corporation by say, 62 local small time operators, well then they could ask for help from local lefties with the FCC license, in the way of endorsements and public comments.

Say local entrepreneurs with a political viewpoints somewhat to the left of the dial.<chuckle>

I see no reason to replace Sinclare (Smith) with a Soros. Besides, I am not convinced Soros is all that 'pure'.

Life is good.

Edit: The stations could play some really good music too, you know the stuff we used to hear when we were young, but by todays standards, the kind youth love. Good inexspensive advertising for corporations that play by the rules, Air America, why all sorts of things could be done. Influencing peoples thinking on matters of public good.

and I'm very glad somebody is listening.

The only way to get rid of these people is through the legal system, while we still have one. If we don't, they'll just keep coming back, as Kerry found out when he failed to nail them for libel when they came out with that book. They will NOT go away. Everybody from the swill boat team to the Bush gang has been around since the Nixon years, and they will come back unless we manage to do something to get them jailed.

After all, they murdered our leaders for decades. The time to jail theirs is long overdue
