John Kerry’s lawyers wear smiles, ties -The Hill
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Several hundred Democratic lawyers — just a fraction of the legal troops the Democrats have marshaled here in Florida — gathered at a union hall Sunday afternoon to hear Chuck Lichtman’s last-minute pep talk.

“You are John Kerry’s lawyer,” Lichtman told the legal recruits. “You have to be fully trained, fully aware of what the law is. … You are probably going to be the most informed people on Florida election law” at the polls.

Today, these attorneys and 3,000 others will be Kerry’s eyes and ears at the Florida polls, deployed across the state to monitor polling locations and make sure that none of Florida’s famous fiascos — from balky butterfly ballots to faulty felon lists — are repeated.

The Democrats are also preparing for potential litigation after the election, but these lawyers, dubbed the Voting Rights Team, are a first line of defense on Election Day.

“If we had had a program in place in 2000 like we have now, we would’ve known by 7:30 a.m. about the butterfly ballot problem,” said Lichtman, 49, special lead counsel to the Kerry campaign in Florida. “We could have gone down to Kinko’s and made 60,000 copies . It wouldn’t have changed all of those votes, but I bet it would’ve changed 537 of them,” he said, referring to President Bush’s margin of victory in Florida........much more........

the Kerry campaign will have 7,000 poll watchers in Florida. They will have one in every precinct.

5. How does Jebbie explain this phalanx of lawyers needed in FL?
Christ, if I were the FL governor, I'd be as embarrassed as hell.

6. Why would you be embarrased
If everything goes as it is supposed to go, then you have thousands of people to verify it. If someone complains that they were disenfranchised, it certainly adds credibility, or may even act to prove that it didn't happen...

8. You don't think all these lawyers are needed because nobody trusts Jebbie?
That's why I think all the lawyers are needed.

Whose lawyers are they, BTW? The UN's?

9. Actually the lawyers and poll watchers are from both sides.
The Tribune reported approx 7000 from the Democratic side, and approx 5000 from the Republican side.

10. My thought exactly!
I'm in Florida, Jebbie made sure that we have numerous voting machines where votes CANNOT be recounted. He was specifically asked to modify them so there could be a recount and REFUSED! To the Bushies the only thing that matters is their agenda. I firmly believe that one day, maybe long after I'm dead, their family corruption will come to light. Young American men and women are dying to save the oil wells for them and their oil crime partners. To hell with the environment! All they know is power and money and feel they have the right to do anything. Even Jeb's wife was caught trying to smuggle $20,000 worth of clothes into the US after one of her Paris shopping trips so she wouldn't have to pay the duty. There's the Bush's rules and then the rules for the rest of us.
