Ohio May See Court Battle Over Election

By ANNE GEARAN
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Ohio emerged as the likely setting for another overtime presidential court fight, with the focus this time on tens of thousands of uncounted ballots cast by people who would otherwise have been turned away from the polls.

Lawyers for President Bush boarded a plane in Washington before dawn, bound for Ohio. They will join hundreds of Republicans lawyers already there.

Democrats have thousands of lawyers in Ohio already, and held off sending any of their trained "SWAT teams" of election lawyers, a precaution this year because of the close presidential race and the bitter memory of the 36-day recount battle in Florida in 2000.

Trailing in the Electoral College count, the Kerry campaign did not concede the election. "Tonight, we are keeping our word, and we will fight for every vote," vice presidential candidate Sen. John Edwards said.

2. Pray that it's not the Gore team from 2000 leading the
battle to defend those votes or woe to us.

3. Why are they focusing on this stupid provisional ballet thing?
Even if we get a large majority of them it still won't make the difference. Why don't they go after the real reason we lost... e-voting fraud.

White House in the Balance As Ohio Counts

By RON FOURNIER
AP Political Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- With Ohio looming as a Florida redux, President Bush climbed within 16 electoral votes of a second term Wednesday and held a solid lead in the popular vote over Democratic rival John Kerry who insisted the race framed by war, terror and joblessness wasn't over.

"We will fight for every vote," Kerry's running mate, Sen. John Edwards, told supporters in a scene eerily reminiscent of the Florida cliffhanger in 2000. Within hours, a 10-person political and legal team from Bush's headquarters was dispatched to Ohio to brace for a Florida-like fight.

After winning Nevada to inch closer to the 270 electoral votes required for a second term, Bush made plans - later revisited - to declare victory in Ohio and claim re-election was his no matter what the Kerry camp does. "We will not base our decision on a concession," said Bush adviser Dan Bartlett.

Several other top aides said Bush would go before supporters in the wee hours Wednesday to claim victory, but they pulled back on that prediction when the Republican's electoral total stalled at 254.

10. this is why I voted absentee paper ballot and will continue to
not that my ballot didn't end up in the trash, that is always a possibility, however voting by computer is like sending it into oblivion.

I wonder if anyone checks up on counties re: absentee voting ballots. How many were requested minus how many actually came in and statistically what portion of the missing and voted were dem vs. republican.

12. But they're not counting those absentee ballots in Florida?
I understand that Graham said there were a million to count and there's only a 300,000 discrepancy in the votes. I believe that there are votes in there for Kerry because Dems intentionally voted absentee this year to offset the Diebold touchscreens.

11. Something I'd like to see
A Supreme Court case, Kerry v Bush, with the exact same results, only inverted--the SCOTUS delivering the election to Kerry, in a 5-3 decision, thus giving Bush and his boys a taste of their own medicine!
