New puppy to pad around White House (Miss Beazley-Related to Barney)
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 04:37 PM by rmpalmer
http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/11/04/presidential.pooch.ap/index.html

A new presidential pooch will soon be roaming the halls of the White House.

President Bush marked Laura Bush's birthday Thursday by announcing he would give her a Scottish terrier puppy that is a relative of the current first dog, Barney.

Miss Beazley, as the first lady and twins Barbara and Jenna have already named the pup, was born October 28. She is due to arrive just before Christmas.

The dog was named for the character Uncle Beazley, a dinosaur in Oliver Butterworth's children's book, "The Enormous Egg."

Another poor pup for Chimpy to drop on its head. Nothing against Scotties(and my apologies in advance to any DU Scotty owners-no offense to your pup), but to me they are kinda girlie-men dogs.

1. Who gives a fuck? This supposed to "humanize" that crew?
WEll, it doesn't---neither does the name from a kiddie book.

Whole damn bunch is only semi-literate eh?

Why didn't he name the dog "Blondie" after the dog owned by his Gramp's favourite client?

9. "Girlie-men dogs"?
Save those kind of insults for steroid-pumped Repukes and men so insecure about their own masculinity that they have to put on a show of false machismo. Do you think Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, Gen Eisenhower and Ronald Reagan were "girlie men", because they all owned Scotties at one time -- some more than one. Scotties are tough critters in a small package -- don't let the size fool you.

15. He carries Barney around because the dog is not trained.
Aren't terriers a bit hyper? Barney probably wants to nip his ankles, piss on his leg or run away. Or perform the ever popular "entangle him in the leash & make him fall over" trick.

Maybe Barney & the new one can double-team the idiot.

I'll plead my bad on saying the dogs are kinda girlie-men - obviously it's the Chimpy owner who deserves the label!

I just prefer the "Big Dogs" myself to the little yippers like Shrub!

26. Scotties are ferocious
The mouth is as large as a german shepard, with short stumpy legs,
but don't mistake that giant head and neck. My scottie has an
alpha male complex with the next door border collie, and when they
tangle the scottie wins. When the collie runs away, the scottie
can't keep up.

Every once in a while, a couple of me scotties get in a scrap and
i don't dare put my hand or foot in to the flashing white teeth and
black fur... no way.

And for the record, i don't think you could distinguish a scottie
bark from a "big dog" bark, It's lower pitch than many large dogs.

Rather than a girlie dog, i find it rather just practical to have
a dog short enough not to get on the kitchen table, as at least part
of the house is not-dogged. :-)

30. Up until 1900...
The scottie was called an "aberdeen terrier" bred in the aberdeen
region of the scottish highlands to survive in that climate.

The nose is elongated to breathe frozen air, and the tail raised to
not freeze in the snow. It is too short to be a danger to sheep
(and not get shot by the neighbors), yet well capable to killing a
fox sized opponent if such need arises. In very high winds, the
scottie is a stable mountain dog, able to walk round clifftops and
such. 100+ mph winds are not uncommon on the moorlands of the
north highlands (like pictured in the photo).

The fur coat can grow to inches thick if it is not groomed, that the
dog can live outdoors in the winter if trained to do so.

I posted this photo before, but it is an ideal example of a scottie
with a full coat.
