Texas Textbooks To Define Marriage As Between Man, Woman
Texas Textbooks To Define Marriage As Between Man, Woman

POSTED: 6:47 am EST November 5, 2004
UPDATED: 2:44 pm EST November 5, 2004

AUSTIN -- The Texas State Board of Education on Friday approved updated health textbooks for Texas high school and middle school students.

The endorsement in Austin came after publishers changed the wording in some of the approved textbooks to reflect marriage as being between a man and a woman.

Board members on Thursday argued about alluding to same-sex marriages in the books.

Board member Terri Leo said some middle- and high-school health books contain "asexual stealth phrases" that disregard a state ban on recognizing same-sex civil unions. Leo wanted language like "individuals who marry" changed to "husbands and wives."

2. Bigotry is so much more effective
If you teach it when they're still young.

11. Get them while they're young. It works for Disneyland, why not....
bigotry and racism.

Maybe NBC can do one of their FYI spots devoted to talking with your kids about becoming racists.

3. The Texas text book buying committee has been dumbing
down their kids for years now. I guess they still think they aren't quite dumb enough. If it only effected Texas it wouldn't be that horrible, but because Texas is so large it has a lot of clout and the textbook publishers will sell the same books to neighboring states. Another outrage in the growing pile of sheeet.

4. The Texas School Book Depository strikes again
That Texas School Book Depository is now a museum devoted to the JFK assassination, but the present one, located elsewhere in Dallas, is still a menace to society throughout the United States.

Here's why: Texas buys all its school books through a central organization, the Depository. Textbook publishers aren't about to publish a bowdlerized edition just for Texas, so the whole country gets stuck with the sanitized Texas textbooks!

5. More foolishness.
Marriage of course will incorporate same gender unions. It's completely inevitable. Massachusettes is leading the way, thankfully.

6. I'm so glad that Texas has its priorities.
God forbid that healthcare or employment would be the top issues in the state.

9. You should read the platform for the Tex Rep Party.
It reads like a nazi textbook: criminalizing homosexuality, teaching the bible in public schools, getting out of the UN, etc.

16. It was in Las Vegas when chimpy boy was on a bender.
The Reverend Elvis presided over the ceremony.

Laura was beautiful in her white taffetta t-shirt and Carrhart jeans. Chimpy wore his favorite tuxedo tee and did shots with the witness after kissing the blushing bride.

I think I'll go out and sacrifice a rooster to the mighty God of whatever-the-hell-they-worship-down-here!

And I left Mississippi because I thought IT was backwards. Wait, it was, wasn't it?

Christ, this can't be the same America I was born in.

23. $1.5 billion
If marriage is so "sacred" and the so called "christians" are the majority, WHY does Bush NEED to spend $1.5 BILLION to TELL STRAIGHTS TO "JUST GET MARRIED"? MAKES NO SENSE.
