(Lancaster, PA) Arrmstrong (Flooring): Why? What's next? (450 jobs)
http://www.lancasteronline.com/pages/news/local/4/9573

LANCASTER COUNTY, PA - Armstrong World Industries took a painful step Thursday, and raised a painful question.

The company announced it would end production of commercial flooring at its Lancaster floor plant, idling 450 workers.

But because only a third of the sprawling plant will stay in operation, with 250 workers making residential flooring, Armstrong faces a new quandary.

What happens to the rest of the property?

The layoffs over the next 18 months are part of a worldwide plan by the company to revitalize its ailing vinyl flooring business, said Armstrong’s Michael D. Lockhart.

6. Perhaps
they re-enact Jesus' "loaves of bread and fish" miracle to feed themselves when they are out on the street living in a cardboard box. They can sing and dance to church hymns to help keep them warm in the winter. And their thoughts about moral values can ward of the depression of a poor economy.

3. the onslaught begins
many were holding off shipping jobs overseas until after the election.

Now we have their "haves and the have mores" economic policy
with free trade religion spun to mask the theft endorsed
officially by our favorite gay hating, gun loving, misogynistic
friends in the that other country known as Jesus land dictating
our national agenda.

7. If they're 2:1 Red,
Good. I applaud them.

Let them eat their bibles.
And if they get seriously ill, let 'em pray themselves cured.

8. Ironic! Anchor Containers just closed its Connellsville, PA...
glass plant No. 5 today without any warning to its employees.

They simply posted a notice of the shutdown along with their promise to pay each employee a 90-day severance allowance.

300+ PA workers tossed off.

Welcome to the new Bush economy!

9. Yeah, we're a red county in a blue state, but ...
... this year, the Democrats really rose up. Though most of the Dem. candidates lost, we increased our visibility in this county so much this year. I have NEVER seen Democrats this fired up, and this determined to end one-party rule in Lancaster County, PA.

In August, we had the biggest Democratic rally in downtown Lancaster since 1960 when Jack Kennedy campaigned there!

We will not be second-class citizens anymore. Please remember, when you're trashing Lancaster County, that there is a growing, increasingly vocal group of brave, committed Democrats here (we marched in county-fair parades this fall and were loudly booed by hundreds of people throughout the parade routes!)

But yeah, at this point, the Repugs still carry the day. And the Armstrong news is upsetting.

14. We Better Get our Cheneying S$%t Together! This is Payback
This is at least the 3rd post I've seen about layoffs in PA. Now, you don't think that this admins corporate masters are shutting down plants in PA by coincidence do you? Look at what they did to CA during the energy crisis.

I guess "he means what he says", and "does what he means". Wake up PA! You're either "with us, or agin us"!

No vacations in Red States! No Walmart, No Sam's Club. We need to use the only power we have left. The power of our pocketbooks!

15. Let's keep your mantra (your last sentence)....
going on the DU boards. It won't be hard for me because I have never stepped foot in a Wal-Mart and have no need for a Sams Club membership. The vacation in red states will be new for me, but hey, I love Cape Cod and Boston and many, many blue states. There's plenty of wonderful things to see and do there.

16. To all you Bush voters in Lancaster...........
bwaa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

I give - you won. How does victory taste now? Hmmm. Not so good when you have no job now is it? Oh, well. Get down on your knees and pray for another. It'll come your way. I just know it.

major sarcasm intended for those Bush voters who aren't smart enough to detect it.
