US ready for Falluja assault (The Guardian)
This is very serious, it is a real mess thanks to The War President aka George W. Bush.

1. Is there anything tactical about this besides the PR bounce?
The looming battle for Falluja promises to be a decisive moment for post-Saddam Iraq, a litmus test for whether US troops and the new Iraq forces can overwhelm insurgents in time for the January polls without the kind of civil ian casualties that will alienate broad swathes of the population.

A rather elaborate photo op on the part of our Idiot King, Sir George.

And those who will pay the dearest price will be innocent civilians and our soldiers.

3. They're making up that 'without the civilian casualties' bit.
Why would Bush care about that anymore.

9. "New Iraq forces" is a joke.
Iraqis are never going to participate in the slaughter of their countrymen for the benefit of Halliburton and Bush. They'll join the "insurgents" every time.

5. So obviously true.
Bush must have a hard-on for Fallujah.

I support our troops and hope they refuse to follow illegal orders.

This is tragic, and The War President sure didn't waste any time after his election win to further PNAC imho.

4. i think he should go all out....
kill everyone -man, women, and child stick their heads on poles leading to the city....burn the city to the ground and salt the earth so nothing will ever grow there again. that will teach them to challenge the imperial rule of the united states of america..

6. Sick of this shit
I am so sick of Bush and his war mongering administration; I cannot believe we have to put up with four more years of these lying, cowardly chicken hawks.

I saw * on tv today and he was strutting around like a peacock. What a dickhead. Now that he thinks the country is behind him, those poor soldiers in Iraq are in deep shit.

7. This is when Iraq will turn into Viet Nam
It really bothers me to that they waited until after the election to do this. I think they know what is going to happen in this assault. A city with 3000 insurgents (plus who knows how many people sympathetic to them) is not going to be taken without an enormous toll in lives, on their side and on ours. This is when we will start seeing daily death tolls in the hundreds, just like during the viet name war.

I hesitate to claim there would be any kind of bright side to this, but maybe it will cause the clueless public to finally open their eyes and realize what is going on.

8. I don't support one troop that goes along with this.
Over one-hundred thousand civilians dead already. Someone wanna give me a reason why I would support these "troops".? My support begins and ends with my tax dollars. I hope noone here is too suprised when something bad comes knocking on our doors. I won't be.

10. The people of Falluja appeal to the UN
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 10:07 AM by seemslikeadream
...

The city was very quiet and peaceful when its people ran it. We didn't witness any disorder in the city. The civil administration was going well given its limited recourses. We simply didn't welcome the occupation forces. This is our right according to the UN Charter, international law and the norms of humanity...

It is very urgent that your Excellency, along with the world leaders, intervenes in a speedy manner to prevent a new massacre.

We have tried to reach your representatives in Iraq, so as to ask them to be more active in this regard, but as you know they are living in the Green Zone where we cannot contact them. We want the UN to be involved in the situation in Falluja so as to avoid a new massacre.

We have tried to reach you through different channels and by asking our friends to convey this letter to your office in New York or Geneva with the hope that it will reach you. At the same time we appeal to you to urge the UN agencies in Iraq to take an active role in protecting civilians and preventing the new massacre which the Americans and the puppet government are planning to start soon in Falluja as well as many parts of our country.

Legion

Enveloped in a sentiment,
a sound that rushes over me.
Engage an impulse to pretend
I have a faith as pure.
Not forgetting what it means to dream.
Indulging everything.
Entertaining thoughts that I've the strength
of those I yearn to be.
Cheers and tribute greet the saviours.
Reckless thoughts survive.
Anachronistic and impulsive.

And what will happen?
Will I dream?
I am too scared to close my eyes.
For a second please hold me.
None can change in me these things that I believe.
But I don't know what happens now.
I am too scared to close my eyes.
