SBC to Cut 10,000 Jobs by End of 2005
DALLAS - Phone company SBC Communications Inc. says it expects to cut 10,000 or more jobs — 6 percent of its work force — by the end of next year through a combination of layoffs and attrition.

"Based on a number of initiatives to improve efficiencies, we currently anticipate there will continue to be additional workforce reductions through attrition or involuntary programs that could exceed 10,000 by December 31, 2005," the company said in the filing. "

SBC has been losing phone lines as customers replace traditional phone lines with cellular phones and voice-over-Internet service.

My heartfelt condolences to those Americans impacted by the serious job loss du jour.

of course, they don't tell the media that. They'd rather the public not know.

The beginnings of this are affectionately known at SBC as Octoberfest since October is when all the plans are made for the annual mass layoffs.
