Attack on U.S. Marine Convoy Wounds 14 in Iraq
NEAR FALLUJA, Iraq (Reuters) - An attack on a convoy of the U.S. 1st Marine Expeditionary Force wounded 14 people in western Iraq (news - web sites) on Saturday, a Marine spokesman said.

He gave no details and it was not clear if the casualties were all Marines. Other units are attached to the 1st MEF.

The spokesman could not confirm media reports that a suicide car bomber had attacked a Marine convoy in the Sunni Muslim city of Ramadi, 110 km (68 miles) west of Baghdad.

It is my fault Bush is getting a second term, its your fault, and its the fault of every single one of us.

Obviously none of us did enough to change this election, and running away from responsibility only guarantees the same outcome in four years.

people more than ever did everything they were capable of and there was more interest than ever in getting out votes this year than ever before. My caucus overflowed the high school cafeteria, where the last time there were only thirty or so attending. Blaming them or us instead of focusing on Kerry's campaign or other reasons why we lost is really cheap.

Maybe it is your fault, eh?

Its ALL of our fault. We share the loss just like we would share in the victory. Obviously none of us did enough, or we would be talking about President-elect Kerry right now.

We put a shitty government in place, and we will all pay for it in one way or another over the coming years. Heaping scorn on those who are bearing the biggest cost for our failure is really, really low class in my opinion.

I admit that we obviously didn't do a good enough job. I didn't do a good enough job, and neither did you. Kerry didn't do a good enough job, John Edwards didn't do a good enough job, and Tom Daschle didn't do a good enough job.

Seriously, pat yourself on the back all you want, but we failed our troops, and telling me how many people you had at your caucus won't change that. Like I said before, I'm a little more concerned with the troops we let down than your feelings right now.

Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful there are people out there willing to work for change. So let me just say this: thank you very much for your work. Now go do more.

5. reuters has updated link;Convoy Attack Wounds 20 U.S. Marines in Iraq
NEAR FALLUJA, Iraq (Reuters) - An attack on a U.S. military convoy wounded 20 Marines in western Iraq (news - web sites) on Saturday, a Marine spokesman said.

~snip~

A police source in Ramadi told Reuters a car bomb had exploded near a U.S. military convoy at 2 p.m. on the main road east from the city. The source said a truck carrying troops was damaged in the blast.

Hospital workers also said at least one Iraqi was killed and 14 wounded in clashes between insurgents and U.S. forces in Ramadi. Rebels firing rocket-propelled grenades have been fighting U.S. troops apparently trying to raid homes in the city since about 7 a.m. witnesses said.

14. US Military: 20 US Soldiers Wounded In Ramadi, Iraq
(not sure if this is the same story)

BAGHDAD (AP)--Twenty U.S. soldiers were wounded Saturday "while conducting security operations" in the insurgent stronghold of Ramadi west of Baghdad, the U.S. military said.

A statement by the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force didn't say precisely how and when the soldiers were injured or describe their condition, citing security reasons.

Residents reported a mortar attack early Saturday on a U.S. installation in the Ramadi area as well as scattered clashes throughout the day as U.S. troops conducted security sweeps in the city, 110 kilometers west of Baghdad.

We fail to give our troops proper leadership, so they should bear the cost with their lives, and receive our contempt? Nuts to that.

If calling bullshit on statements like "Too bad, so sad" is what you consider "sanctimonious", then you have a warped value system my friend.

You hate Bush? Great! Don't take it out on the people getting their asses shot because of him. That's stupid, that's lazy, and that's counter-productive.

Take that juvenile "he has a right to say what he wants" argument somewhere else. Of course he has a right. He has an absolute right to say stupid, unthinking, callous, ridiculous things that live down to the worst stereotypes of liberals and accomplish absolutely nothing but the alienation of those we seek to persuade.

That is his perfect right. As is yours to side with him.

38. That was a survey...
And from what I read, it was a survey of Army Times subscribers, so it went to mainly retirees, bases, offices, and a lot of instructors, recruiters and officer weenies.

Generally not the troops on the ground.

From my informal survey of those I work around on two Navy bases, it runs about 50/50; the majority of Shrub supporters falling in the catagorys of retirees (running about 45% for the shrub), officers(around 70% - the higher up, or less of a minority, the more chance of being a pubbie), fundies(100%), and boots (around 80%) who have never been deployed and still get their news and political info from the base sources (FAUX news, CNN, and AFR).

I highly doubt that 80% of the troops in Iraq voted for Bush - especially those who were National Guards or Reservists who were still stuck there despite being promised to be sent home three to six months ago. I rather think that only 40% of troops able to send in absentee votes from Iraq voted for Shrub - and a smaller percentage of troops stationed in Germany did due to the Shrub's policies concerning the bases, dependants and duties.
If you read the mail call in "Stars and Stripes", you can find a huge undercurrent of dissatisfaction with the Commander in Chief amongst the troops - far unlike the tone of letters sent to that column during Gulf War I or even Somalia.

16. Well, they will be treated in a hospital
by doctors and nurses and hopefully survive their wounds.

I also cannot muster up much gung ho support-when they come home they will not be greeted by their president, when they come home dead, they cannot and will not be honored by their president or anyone on the tarmac when the big plane arrives full of flag drapped caskets--not even the Nation's Comforter, or the blowzy, fashionable twins will be there to honor them-

I pay for the hospitals and the doctors and nurses that may save their lives, and that is my best committment and my best compassion that I can summon up now.

20. This is largest # of casualties reported in a convoy attack
Now, according to IRR, convoys are attacked regularly.

Early morning fighting in al-Fallujah.

About 20 US troops attempted to concentrate in
advanced positions in the direction of the al-
Ghanifi neighborhood of al-Fallujah at dawn Monday, but
the Resistance observed them and attacked them from
three sides. Ten US troops were killed and six others
wounded in the engagement. Frustrated in their attempt
to advance, a US armored vehicle came forward to retrieve
the dead and wounded.

Resistance forces fired four mortar rounds at a US
checkpoint near al-Fallujah early Monday. US troops
then responded firing eight artillery shells into the city,
destroying a house and wounding three civilians.

Resistance ambush Sunday night in ar-Ramadi.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded under a US
column, destroying one in an attack at about 10pm Sunday
in ar-Ramadi. Resistance fighters fired a rocket at
another vehicle but it managed to flee. Ten American
troops were reportedly killed in the
engagement.

Please, at least 20 killed. The only reason this was
reported
was that there were embedded reporters.

There are no checks and balances left. The US Senate now
has 55 of these Republicans. When they hit 60, which is
what will happen in 2006 mid-term elections—trust me—
that means that no matter what Bush and the crime family

gone.

Are about to become Shredded Hash for the Halliburton Criminals.

As they march off to the sounds of braying crowds and beating drums to "KILL the Muslim
Rag-Heads". With this tune ringing in their ears.

Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus going on before.
Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe;
Forward into battle see His banners go!

Refrain

Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus going on before.

At the sign of triumph Satan’s host doth flee;
On then, Christian soldiers, on to victory!
Hell’s foundations quiver at the shout of praise;
Brothers lift your voices, loud your anthems raise.

Refrain

Like a mighty army moves the church of God;
Brothers, we are treading where the saints have trod.
We are not divided, all one body we,
One in hope and doctrine, one in charity.

The city of Fallujah is said to be the home of the insurgents behind the recent wave of
kidnappings, beheadings and suicide bombings.
Colonel Gary Brandl of the United States Marine Corps commented:
"The enemy has a face. It is Satan's. He is in Fallujah, and we are going to destroy him."

32. From your keyboard to their Commander's ears
From the Yahoo article:

'Col. Gary Brandl voiced his troops' determination:

"The enemy has got a face. He's called Satan. He's in Fallujah and we're going to destroy him."'

It's a Junior Boykin Ranger.

Holy crap. And I mean that.

49. That's the spirit!
If there's one way to show that our side really does value the sacrifices of our troops, its to call them "simple, rustic, ignorant".

They aren't there because they love getting their arms and legs blown off, they're there because our shitty government sent them. We failed them, and bullshit like yours continues to fail them.

100. Check out what this intellectually challenged piece of work said
HERE'S TOUGH TALK SPORT

Sgt. Maj. Carlton W. Kent, the top enlisted Marine in Iraq, told troops the coming battle of Fallujah would be “no different” than the historic fights at Inchon in Korea, the flag-raising victory at Iwo Jima,

You’re all in the process of making history,” Kent told a crowd of some 2,500 Marines. “This is another Hue city in the making. I have no doubt, if we do get the word, that each and every one of you is going to do what you have always done — kick some butt.”

THE IDIOT FORGOT TO TELL THEM HOW THE LAST CRUSADE ENDED.

103. This is another Hue city in the making.
I heard that on the radio today and it turned my stomach. It seems like no one told Maj. Carlton how Hue City ended.

However, I'm not sure how that really addresses my point that some of the attitudes towards our troops on this and other threads (yours not necessarily among them) are absolutely ridiculous.

Have you ever been in combat?

Have you ever pulled the trigger?

Have you ever watched someone bleed out?

I've read your endless crap posts. Here's a hard truth, everyone boots on the ground in Iraq enlisted and every time one caps an innocent Iraqi that blood is on them. And they will be judged and they will be found wanting. And if you think I am alone in my opinion I've got a VA hospital for you to visit.

And now I am done with you.

37. You can be certain that for every single US military casualty
there will be a hundred Iraqi civilians suffering the same fate. The Lancet figures suggest that 100,000 have died since the war started.
Civilians make up well over 90% of the casualties in Iraq. This compares with 80% in Vietnam and 50% in World War II. The trend is relentless and deeply depressing.

That's a great idea! Our military should break away from civilian control and start deciding policy for themselves. Nothing bad can come from that, could it? I mean, its not like the civilian control of the armed forces is a central tenet of our republic or anything, right?

Maybe you want to abdicate responsibility for this war to a scared 20 year old that just wants to come home alive and in one piece, but I think that is a no-win position. This war is OUR resposibility, and sticking our heads in the sand just gives people like Bush a free hand.

Screw that.

79. What I honestly don't understand...
is how living down to the worst stereotypes of liberals is supposed to help us at a time like this. When our candidates tell the voters that Democrats care about the military and respect the enormous sacrifices they make, I know they mean it.

When Republicans point out the kind of bullshit being spouted here, however, it makes it a hell of a lot harder to convince other people of that.
