Iran wins key backing from China in nuclear stand-off
TEHRAN (AFP) - Iran was given crucial backing from China in its stand-off with the UN's nuclear watchdog, with Beijing saying it opposed US efforts to have the Islamic republic referred to the United Nations (news - web sites) Security Council.

"There is no reason to send the issue to the Security Council," Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing said in a press conference with his Iranian counterpart, Kamal Kharazi.

"It would only make the issue more complicated and difficult to work out," Li said, contradicting Washington by saying "the Iranian government is having a very positive attitude in its cooperation" with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Li refused to speculate on whether China would use its veto in the Security Council in the event of Iran's case being sent there. He did say he had told US Secretary of State Colin Powell (news - web sites) and British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw "that China supports a solution in framework of the IAEA".

1. Since China holds so much of our debt
there is little the US can do about this. Who is stupid enough to tell their banker to step-off? Prolly not even the Bushies.

hahaha Idiots.

2. I'm thinking
this is probably a good thing. Since China has weighed in, this may mean * won't go over and invade Iran.

3. Why not Syria?
Most of the righties believe that all the wmd's were shipped on trucks to Syria anyway. Why not? A small country with an outdated military can easily be liberated. Freedom and democracy are cathing on like wildfire and they will probably throw flowers at us as well.

6. How surprising!
China and Iran just closed multibillion oil deal, and now this!? I'm shocked! Shocked!

The days when China was a non-player sitting on the bench are long past. Just look how masterfully China has played NK against US idiot bullies.

10. Also
Don't forget the Iran plans to start up very soon a local oil-bourse, to compete with NYMEX and Brent. US can't buy there because of self-inflicted sanctions, so if lot's of trade volumes shift there, the end result is close to oil embargo against US. Which is too weak, both militarily and politically, to invade Iran. Game over? :D

11. You know, I finally have hope, we all will learn very shortly many things
that have been in play.

1) do deficits matter?

2) Can the US get complete control of the middle east oil?

3) Did Bush actually fall into a trap that Osma laid out to bankrupt America, weaken our military control by wasting precious resources in Iraq while Iran and China thrive in prosperity?

4) Will America be safe from another attack? If one occurs, will our economy bottom out?

5) Is Bush truly a complete fool that has fallen for the ultimate trap or is he really a genius that will fix the middle east issues?

Sometimes I forget, there are blessings in disguise.

8. AP- Progress Made in Iran Nuclear Talks
PARIS - European diplomats have made "considerable progress" toward a provisional accord concerning Iran's nuclear program, France's Foreign Ministry said Saturday, despite earlier reports of a stalemate.

The statement came after two days of talks in Paris aimed at persuading Tehran to stop developing technologies that could be used to make nuclear weapons.

"At the end of difficult discussions, the two sides have achieved considerable progress toward a provisional accord on a common approach to these questions," the ministry said.

A diplomatic official said on condition of anonymity that talks stretched over 20 hours and set the stage for better relations between Europe and Tehran
