Iraqi rebels invite media to "embed" in Falluja
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/FRI650937.htm

BAGHDAD, Nov 6 (Reuter) - Falluja insurgents besieged by U.S. and Iraqi troops on Saturday invited journalists to "embed" with them to report their side of the war.

"All media will be allowed into Falluja to witness the crusade against Islam and see the real face of America. U.S. media will not be excluded," said a statement by the Falluja Mujahideen Shura (council), composed of insurgent leaders, tribal chiefs and Sunni Muslim clerics.

"We will protect and transport them to the location of the events. There will be a special building for the journalists."

The offer mimics a practice introduced by U.S.-led forces for last year's Iraq invasion in which reporters are attached to military units and live alongside the troops.

2. that wouldn't be ethical
you'd just get insurgent propaganda. /sarcasm

Seriously, I'm disappointed the article didn't say if any journalists were taking them up on it, or if the news organizations had any comment.

7. agree
Robert Fisk might take them up on this. If the US were notified of his whereabouts, would they take him out anyway? In the current political climate I'd think they might

8. BBC: Here is one Reporter's account in Fallujah.....
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/3986085.stm

<snip>

Prayers and tears in Falluja

The Iraqi city of Falluja is braced for an assault by US forces massed on its outskirts.

The BBC News website spoke by phone to a reporter in Falluja, who described how people left in the city live on through siege and bombardment. He is not named for security reasons.

When I hear bombs falling around my neighbourhood, I keep thinking - any moment now, I could be killed.

It is worst during the night, when the bombardment is most intense.

If a big bomb lands somewhere nearby, you often hear crying and wailing afterwards.

It is a very strange feeling because in between the screaming, there is the sound of more missiles flying.

That is when I think - I could be next.

Another sound you hear during the bombing is that of prayers. People pray loudly because they are so scared.

23. Insurgents Use Media to Fight Americans
NEAR FALLUJAH, Iraq - U.S. military planners and intelligence analysts believe Iraqi insurgent leaders holed up in Fallujah will defend the city by combining scrappy fighting with a media blitz designed to provoke a worldwide outcry.

The insurgents understand that they cannot beat the U.S. military, but will probably try to hold off the assaulting forces, killing as many U.S. troops as possible and provoking a backlash in the United States over American casualties, U.S. Army officials say.

"He wants to make it as painful and costly as he can," said Army Maj. Eric Larsen, of the 1st Cavalry Division's 2nd Brigade. "He's testing us. How much are we willing to pay for that real estate?"

At the same time, the insurgents will seek to exploit public horror in the Muslim world as well as among U.S. allies over civilian deaths, with the goal of forcing the U.S. military and Iraqi governments to negotiate, Army officials said.

interesting, considering the Iraqi's/US Military have launched their very own propaganda campaign.
