Controversial Milwaukee radio host off the air Monday

A radio station pulled a conservative talk radio show from the airwaves Monday as Hispanics continued to protest its host and his use of a racial slur.

WISN Radio's parent company, Clear Channel Communications Inc., said Mark Belling's program would return but did not say when.

Several advertisers complained or pulled ads after Belling used the word "wetback" to describe illegal Mexican immigrants on his Oct. 27 show about potential voter fraud in Wisconsin.

"You watch the voter turnout on the near south side (of Milwaukee), heavily Hispanic, and compare it to the voter turnout in any other election, and you're going to see every wetback and every other non-citizen out there voting," he said.

In a statement, Cindy McDowell, market manager of Clear Channel's six Milwaukee stations, declined to say whether the company reprimanded Belling, whose show consistently tops the ratings.

"Everyone deserves a second chance. Mark will return to the air," the statement said.

To support this type of rehtoric over airwaves is wrong. At somepoint we (the public)have to draw the line.

Belling day in an day out has been prime example of the control that right wing commentators have over communities. People are fed up with him and he stepped over the line telling his radio listeners to "stop the wetbacks and illegals from voting.." With that comment he exposed his true self to Milwaukee and that was enough. I support the efforts of the latino community in thier efforts to have him punished. I personally have responded to him in articles and letters to my local paper. His columns and television program are nothing but tools of the hate and fera mongering right. Replacing would be good for all of Milwaukee. let him have his free speech on the unemployment line and put a kinder more thoughtful person in his place. I am sick of accepting hate speech as normal.

Contact them and let 'em know commenting on Mexicans as being "WET BA__S" in racial slurs to mock their work typically being labor jobs where they would naturally sweat, is about as low and humiliating as you can get, and any civilized country cannot tolerate this over the line behavior from their on air personalities. It's as if he called blacks - "ni__ers", whites - "cr__kers", and gays - "fa__ots", there is NOTHING different from those slurs and the one he chose about Mexican heritage citizens.

Among the nearly 1,400 voter registration forms turned in as of Sept. 1, some of the startling findings included 59 forms for already registered voters, two for non-citizens and duplicate forms for the same person on multiple occasions. The Racine City Clerk’s office sent letters out to addresses on 96 suspicious forms, and already, 16 were returned as undeliverable.

This suspicious pattern of alleged fraud and forgery raises numerous questions, not the least of which is why the deputy registrars submitted the invalid registrations. Could registrars be submitting fraudulent voter registration forms with the intent of later casting fraudulent votes?

Besides Project Vote, Milwaukee radio talk show host Mark Belling has reported that the New Voters Project, another questionable voter mobilization organization, “sent in thousands (yes, thousands) of dubious registration forms that lack legally required identification.”

Incidentally, the Wisconsin campus director of this organization which has a strong presence here in Madison is Jessy Tolkan, who herself has had history with election fraud. In spring 2001, Tolkan gave up her seat on the Madison City Council amid allegations that she lied about her legal residence on her nominating papers. The property manager of the Randall Street apartment where she claimed residency later confirmed in the Wisconsin State Journal that Tolkan was never a tenant there. When running for ASM Student Council as a freshman, she was forced to perform community service before assuming her seat due to campaign violations.

Also, Belling stated, “One former employee of the New Voter Project has told me that many staffers simply took names out of the telephone book to fill out their daily quotas. He quit his job in fear there’d be a criminal investigation.”

I saw him at the doctor's office once. I should have taken him outside and left the doctors try to resuscitate him.

He's a total prick! On 9/26, he made a comment that prompted me to send the following email:

Dear Sir or Madam,
I am compelled to write to you after hearing a comment on Belling & Company just a few minutes ago. While discussing the inquest into the death of a man in Mequon police custody, a Mr. Matthew Sheridan, Mark Belling had the audacity and complete disrespect for a human life to make the following comment "The family is gonna sue, and they're going to try to put a value on this loser's head". I was so shocked that I had to rewind it to be sure that I heard it correctly. However, I am even more shocked to discover that I had, in fact, heard it correctly.

Regardless of Mr. Belling's opinion of the case, I am embarrassed that a comment like that is allowed with such blatant disregard for human decency. This is a dead young man. Obviously one who'd made many bad decisions in his life. But, who hasn't? Including the man who sits in the highest ranking office in this country (cocaine, DUI's, etc....)

One's past mistakes are not always an indication of one's potential.

I guess that he's one of those "compassionate conservatives" we've heard about. I believe that he owes the family a sincere apology.
