Bush ‘will still pursue aggressive' foreign policy (Powell interview)
President George W. Bush has won a mandate from the American people to continue pursuing his “aggressive” foreign policy, but the US will also reach out to the international community where it can, according to Colin Powell, the secretary of state.

“The president is not going to trim his sails or pull back,” Mr Powell told the Financial Times on Monday. “It's a continuation of his principles, his policies, his beliefs.” In his first interview since the presidential election last Tuesday, Mr Powell stressed Mr Bush had won a mandate to pursue a foreign policy that was in the US national interest.

That policy would also be in the interest of friends and alliances, and while it would be “multilateral in nature”, the US would act alone where necessary.

Mr Powell's office would not comment on whether he would remain as secretary of state during Mr Bush's second term.

4. It will be hard to do battle with people who are sure they are----
not only right about every thing, should rule and do have most of the power. If they gave the lesser on the list their rights it would be in the American way but I do not think they will. It is almost as if the people that voted in Bush really feel we are the worlds Empire. And you know what always happens to that. Maybe before they drive us into the ground they will see the light? It is not the first time we have been here. We rode over the whole of this country with this belief and took it to Spain at one time in wars to over take countries. We never come home after WW2.

7. This is such bullshit

The chimp is incapable of forming policies, or principles. He is incapable of articulating any meaningful system of beliefs.

He is the popular figurehead for a ignorant mass of people with fascist tendencies whipped up by the masters of propaganda, the military industrial complex. Fascism is a mass movement manipulated by ruling corporate elites who are always behind the scenes pulling the strings.

Powell is their Janus faced representative to the rest of the world. The fact that he is pushing this agressive policy jibberish is a significant threat to the world while American ground troops are invading medical facilities and bombing residential neighborhoods in Iraq.

Iraq as Carthage- the new imperial meme.

Why doesn't Powell, just show the world what he really is and go walking around in a white house coat?

12. Yup! You gotta love that "humble" foreign policy.
I heard an interview this morning on NPR with an Arab who said that they have learned a lesson from Mr. Bush. Since he was elected by the "Xtian" Right, Mr. Bush should not be surprised when they choose a fundamentalist for their leader - albeit, one who is Islamic.

14. Act with what? Call up the Boy Scouts?
Secretary Powell seems to have forgotten that he has no more military, no money left to support what we have, and half the citizens of his own country don't believe a thing he says anymore.

15. There's that "mandate" word again. I wish the media would stop using
that term unless it is in a direct quote. Reminds me of the word game they played with "imminent danger".
