Sunni Party Withdraws From Iraq Government
Edited on Tue Nov-09-04 05:41 AM by othermeans
BAGHDAD, Iraq - A major Sunni political party has quit the interim Iraqi government and revoked its single minister from the Cabinet in protest over the U.S. assault on the insurgent stronghold of Fallujah, the party's leader said Tuesday.

The Iraqi Islamic Party wields significant influence over the country's Sunni community and its withdrawal from the government will likely be a blow to Interim Prime Minister Ayad Allawi.

1. Chimpy* says he will have elections in January because ...
of the Fallujah assault "all will be okie-dokie"! What an ass...

<snip>
"We are protesting the attack on Fallujah and the injustice that is inflicted on the innocent people of the city," said Mohsen Abdel-Hamid, head of the Iraqi Islamic Party.

Abdel-Hamid told The Associated Press the party leaders convened Monday and decided that their one minister in the Cabinet — Minister of Industry, Hajim Al-Hassani — should quit.

"We cannot be part of this attack," he said.

On Monday, Allawi confirmed he had given the greenlight to multinational and Iraqi forces to retake the insurgent-held city of Fallujah, which has become a symbol of Muslim resistance to the U.S. led-forces in Iraq (news - web sites).

2. Remeber when they captured Sadam? That was supposed to be the
end of the insurrection. Fools. How can you defeat people who are willing to sacrifice themselves in suicide attacks? Death penalty for suicide bombers?

3. Looks to me like this is going to back fire on the US.
I just do not think bombing this city to dust is going to do it. This is not WW2 and these are not regular army people. It looks bad for us as a great army. Some one must see that times are not what they were at the DOD. It seems that those generals are put out to retirement if they do not think like the old thinking guys running the place or Bush. I guess we are just out of the times.Maybe we will just say we won and leave it at that.

6. . . . the Center cannot hold . . .
Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all convictions, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

7. This is where it starts to get too complicated for the average 'Murikan...
They are unable to read an article like this and see that the civil war is on. They're likely back into the allure of the Scott Peterson trial.

9. Can you really call it a civil war?
I mean it is an occupier, some Iraqi's helping an occupier, against the rest of the country of Iraq.

I don't see that as a civil war.

I agree with you that the Scott Peterson trial is much more to the liking of the masses and I expect them all to seek sanctuary there as well.

This big battle in Falluja is a gift for the conservatives that voted for Bush that have wanted the city "nuked" for so long. The battle strategically is useless. They let civilians leave the city which no doubt most of the insurgents went with them. So a few insurgents holed up will fight. They will get a lot of pretty pictures of contrails, and fire. Which if you look at CNN they have a new one up about every five minutes on their front page, this is not by accident I assure you. So with that they will storm in, conservatives will feel all happy about how tough they are. Once that is done they will leave the city the people will come back and no net gain for the U.S. A loss for the Iraqi's in terms of things being destroyed and civilians killed.

More nonsense but this is the nonsense president, who just got 59,000,000 nonsense votes, and is fighting a nonsense war.

12. UNITY was never the plan. They NEED a divided iraq to keep the oil FROM
the market.

There was never a point to GETTING the oil, but to get control of the oil.

There is more profit in crippling the oil flow than in getting it to market.
