Kevorkian appeals to Granholm again
By KORIE WILKINS
Of The Daily Oakland Press

Assisted suicide advocate Jack Kevorkian is again asking Gov. Jennifer Granholm to release him from prison, saying his health is deteriorating.

Kevorkian, 76, was dealt a blow last week when the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear his case - the second time the nation's highest court refused to do so.

In 2003, Kevorkian tried to get Granholm to pardon him or commute his sentence, but that request was denied. On Monday, Kevorkian's attorney Mayer Morganroth asked the Michigan Parole Board to recommend that the governor either pardon his client or commute Kevorkian's sentence.

"Either the request is granted and he is released or he is going to die in prison," Morganroth said.

1. They'll parole him in a couple of years, if he's still alive
He's got 4 more years to serve toward the minimum. He probably has had few behavior problems and rule violations. He might get an early release, due to his age, if he promises not to help anyone else kill themselves.

Dr. Death made a big mistake when he fired his lawyer, who had gotten him off numerous times before. Whereas I do support people's right to decide to die on their own terms, rather than waste away from a terminal and painful disease, I think Kervorkian enjoyed what he was doing in a way that made me think he wasn't the best spokesperson for the issue.

2. Do you really think he will promise not to help with any more suicides?

3. The Real Question:
If he DOES promise that, will it MEAN anything?
