Lynda Van Devanter, an Army surgical nurse in Vietnam whose autobiography focused attention on women's struggles with post traumatic stress syndrome and chemicals including Agent Orange, has died. She was 55.

Van Devanter, whose 1983 book "Home Before Morning" inspired the 1988-91 television series "China Beach," died Nov. 15 at her home in Herndon, Va. The cause was systemic collagen vascular disease, which she had attributed to her exposure in Vietnam to chemicals including the defoliant Agent Orange.

A spokesman for the Vietnam Veterans of America said the organization will pursue an Agent Orange claim against the government on behalf of Van Devanter's daughter, Molly.

Van Devanter was the founding executive director of the Women's Project of the Vietnam Veterans of America from 1979 to 1984, testifying before Congress and other government agencies on behalf of the 7,465 women Vietnam veterans. She joined the 71st Evacuation Hospital in Pleiku, South Vietnam, after telling herself: "If our boys were being blown apart, then somebody better be over there putting them back together again. I started to think that maybe that somebody should be me."

The helicopters carrying those Marines to hospitals are older than the Master Sargent's and Colonels in the field.

I wonder for example if they are still making Chinooks?

CH-53's are newer, but there are not as many.
The Osprey was supposed to replace them by 1980, but the USAF tied it up so long it appears hopeless now.

The people do need to see pictures like this in conjunction with the myriads of flag drapped coffins arriving and they need to see it over and over and ask themselves "What have I done?"

In the minds of many, they think that the tent hospitals are like M.A.S.H--you know--teevee shows. Soldiers are like G.I. Joe dolls.

and they need to see the hundreds of pictures of babies and children chopped up, bleeding and dead also

The entire glorifying of war, soldiers, battle and the romanticizing of it all has got to stop somehow and the entire story of how this whole thing occurred, with the lies, the incompetence and the treason of their president brought forth in the bright light of day.

We knew it, but the message never got out in all it's horrifying truth.

Anyone who would try to cover this up, to miminize it to save their job is a traitor and that includes the media.

I am not a technical person, but if someone out there is, and could put together a compendium of photographs in a folder, then maybe I could forward them onto my creepy family, all of whom voted for Bush!!! These people need to be held accountable in a visual way, for their choices !!!
