Ohio Still Counting Provisional Ballots
Edited on Wed Nov-10-04 08:36 PM by fryguy

Officials in the state's 88 counties must check 155,337 provisional ballots to ensure they are valid, then count them in a process that is expected to take another week or more.

With President Bush (news - web sites) leading the Democratic presidential nominee Kerry by more than 136,000 votes in the pivotal state in unofficial returns, it would be practically impossible for provisional ballots to change the outcome.

edit: but what was the chances that * would confound the extit polls the way he "did" - - keep hope alive!

1. But what about verifying the electronic votes?
Ohio newspaper had already said * got 4000 more votes than he should have due to an 'error'. In a precinct that held something like 1000 voting age people.

2. How do they know? Maybe 155,000 of them are for Kerry.

3. Ask yourself, "Who was challenginging voters?"
Why, the GOP was! Those provisional ballots should be overwhelmingly blue. Enough to give Ohio to Kerry? Nope. The fix is in.

4. 19.000 is the number
That scares the GOP. If the Prov. Ballots and late overseas ballots bring the difference between Kerry and Bush to less than 19,000. Automatic Statewide Recount kicks in.

Plus there is 90,000 punch cards without a "vote" or double vote for President.... They would be checked on a Recount.........

7. Greens to recount Ohio!!! Need donations ASAP. Go to...
www.votecobb.org. Greens and Libertarians will ask for a complete Ohio recount when they have raised $110,000. It's happening. Was on KPFK about an hour ago.

9. People cast provisional ballots
for many reasons, such as that they ordered and lost an absentee ballot or their registration wasn't processed for some reason. It is likely that some of the provisional ballots are unrelated to the GOP challenges.

10. That 136,000 includes 93,000 counts that exceeded votes cast
That brings it way down.

12. How are these provisional ballots being counted? naked eye?
scanner? How?

Also, this:

Before the election, Democrats waged an unsuccessful legal battle to allow provisional ballots to count if they were cast in the wrong precinct but the right county. But of the 2,666 provisional ballots processed by Wednesday in Cuyahoga County, only one was thrown out because the voter was in the wrong precinct, Bennett said.

If provisional ballots are to be tossed if they aren't in the correct precinct, their being so cautious about matching ballot to precinct, how does Ohio account for such a high percentage of overvotes in some of its precincts?
