WTO rules against US gambling ban
US laws prohibiting cross-border gambling break trade rules, the World Trade Organisation says.
The WTO case was brought by the Caribbean state of Antigua and Barbuda, host to many of the online casinos whose use is illegal in the US.
.................
But the US said it will appeal and - as a last resort - could activate its right to change the deal under which it joined the WTO in the first place.
.................
Antigua and Barbuda, whose population is just 67,000, says it gets as many as 3,000 jobs from internet gambling.

The business has helped it weather the downturn in tourism.

The US law - which forbids paying for betting by means of US-issued credit cards or cheques - is endangering its economy, it said.

In a statement, the islands' government said it had won a "David and Goliath" fight, and insisted it had tried to reach a negotiated settlement only to be rebuffed five times.

It also quoted a survey suggesting the US was home to half the worldwide online gambling market.

1. Anyone who does online gambling is an idiot.
The only game that is winnable (blackjack) becomes unwinnable in a hurry because of a constant electronic reshuffle.

NOTE: I do not consider sports betting or poker gambling. These can be and are consistently beaten by people who are skilled enough to do it.

3. I am a gambler
And I will never gamble for real money online. I do not have close to enough confidence in the legitimacy of the game to do so.

6. well, well
this might be good. The US gambling industry has a lot of clout.

Maybe we can finally get out of this BS WTO with it's 24 votes to gang up against the US.

Sorry ya all, but Clinton was an idiot IMHO for signing these things.

world's largest economy joins a group of lesser economies and doesn't have a veto vote. no no no!

I think they give their authority to themselves.

8. Is the enemy of my enemy my friend?
An odd assortment of U.S. bedfellows may want to exit the WTO or define our relationship to it.

Would it be worth it to align ourselves with very conservative religious types to gain a little more control over our trade relationship?

I can only wonder what Fallwell and Robertson, et al, are thinking.

Can you say "wedge?" I thought you could.

10. What a joke, big win for scammers
To cheat on online poker get your friends together and play collaboratively or use a cell to coordinate hands. Split the take. Fleece the suckers.

You have to be a true moron to play for real money online.
