Terror hits Haifa Street
Rebels take charge of neighborhood.

BAGHDAD, Iraq - The killings were performed with a kind of gangland bravado meant to remind the people of Haifa Street that their neighborhood belonged not to them, not to Iraqi or U.S. forces, but to Iraq’s 18-month insurgency.

Shortly before noon on Monday, two masked gunmen in a sedan pulled up to a garage where two Iraqi policemen were fixing their car. The gunmen jumped out and, without saying a word, riddled the two officers with bullets.

Horrified onlookers ran for cover, said U.S. Army Capt. Chris Ford, who investigated the killings. Then, turning their AK-47 assault rifles toward those fleeing, the attackers sprayed a 360-degree swath of gunfire, shattering storefront windows and filling surrounding houses and apartment buildings with an unbroken circle of bullet holes.

Before speeding off, the gunmen shouted a warning, Ford said: "You help these people or bury them, and we will kill you!"

2. The military is investigating
the possibility of Al Capone's involvement.
Give me a break. Since when has the military ever cared about civilian deaths (they don't even investigate the deaths they create!)? And if they supposedly killed and scattered everyone around, then who did they shout to, and who heard them?
BS. Total BS.

3. What I'm Seeing in Iraq is Very Similar to Vietnam
Sometimes, it's like seeing the same movie again with different players and costumes.

The more we bomb and kill, the more we lose politically. A no win situation, just an endless pit of blood, death, and money.

5. this is fluff
the CT piece has a nov 11, 2004 date but i swear i read this last week somewhere else. it mentions monday, implying monday of this week. but there are no specifics in the article to pin anything done. furthermore, get a load of this detail:
"Then, turning their AK-47 assault rifles toward those fleeing, the attackers sprayed a 360-degree swath of gunfire, shattering storefront windows and filling surrounding houses and apartment buildings with an unbroken circle of bullet holes."

"unbroken circle" my arse, this is creative writing, imo.

6. True or not...
all it would illustrate is that there is lawlessness in Iraq....DUH. Doesn't really demonstrate much of an agenda, can be used by either side (left or right) to illustrate their point.
