A Look at U.S. Military Deaths in Iraq (1,155)
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20041112/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq_us_deaths&cid=540&ncid=1480

~snip~

As of Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at least 1,155 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq (news - web sites) war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. At least 877 died as a result of hostile action, the Defense Department said. The figures include three military civilians.

The AP count is six higher than the Defense Department's tally, which was not updated Thursday because of the Veterans Day holiday.

The British military has reported 74 deaths; Italy, 19; Poland, 13; Spain, 11; Ukraine, nine; Bulgaria, seven; Slovakia, three; Estonia, Thailand and the Netherlands, two each; and Denmark, El Salvador (news - web sites), Hungary and Latvia have reported one death each.

Since May 1, 2003, when President Bush (news - web sites) declared that major combat operations in Iraq had ended, 1,017 U.S. military members have died, according to AP's count. That includes at least 778 deaths resulting from hostile action, according to the military's numbers.

1. And a lot of deaths in the last few days aren't in Fallujah
Seeing as how the insurgents left town before our well-publicized attack. The shit is hitting the fan everywhere else though.

3. And the wounded numbers grow steadily higher...

U.S. Marines carry an injured colleague after a mortar explosion close to their position in of Falluja, November 10, 2004. Eighteen U.S. troops have been killed and another 69 wounded in this week's offensive to take control of the rebel-held Iraqi city, a senior U.S. Marine Corps commander said on November 11. Five Iraqi troops fighting alongside the Americans also have been killed in the ground assault on the city, while 34 Iraqi security forces have been wounded in action, Maj. Gen. Richard Natonski, commander of the 1st Marine Division, told a briefing in Falluja monitored at the Pentagon (news - web sites). Photo by Eliana Aponte/Reuters

12. I think only the seriously wounded go to Germany
This gives a death to serious wounded rate of about 1 to 10 for this Fallujah operation. This seems higher than what has been seen in the past in Iraq, so the city fighting must really be negating the technology advantage.

5. Hey! Death really DOES take a holiday!
Edited on Thu Nov-11-04 08:22 PM by Inland
Because the Boys in the Pentagon have the Veterans Day off, to honor our vets, nobody is around to update the number of deaths to include those who died on Veterans Day! Death(s) take a holiday!

I put this a 60 out of 100 on the Irony Meter.

6. If 140,000 troops
deaths = 0.08%.
Strange the military quota for peace time is around 5% allowable for training, which is dangerous, vaccinations, and other.
Why so few in a combat zone? Are we being lied too?
Severely wounded, why no figures?
