American-made goods suffer abroad due to U.S. policies
<Marketing experts say Hormel has little choice but to market Spam as a British product in light of foreign consumers' views about America.

A poll released in October by Seattle-based Global Market Insite shows that people in China, Japan, Germany and other industrialized Western nations are less willing today to purchase American brands — notably Starbucks, Marlboro and Mattel — than before the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq.

More than half of those surveyed cite an increasingly negative perception of the U.S., while 20 percent say they'll avoid its products due to America's position on foreign affairs.

"An actual decrease in purchasing is likely if a product is closely associated with America and there is a good non-American substitute," said Mitchell Eggers, chief operating officer at Global Market.

The poll of 8,000 consumers found that American companies such as Coca-Cola, Microsoft, and Levi's are less likely to be boycotted because there are limited alternatives overseas.>

5. So many letters to the editor here in free republic Fresno
So many of these people here ask why should we care about what the world thinks of us. Well this is the answer, an ad hoc sanction against us. Even with the dollar falling and making the U.S. product cheap, this will continue to drive it down and eventually break the U.S. fiscally. The Joads and the "Grapes of wrath" will be back in fashion before you know it with a Bush administration.

12. Small minds
I'll tell you why we should care about what the world thinks about us...because we live in this world.

My mother said she does not care what the world thinks about us. Needless to say, she voted for W.

What these people don't get is we are engendering such a hatred, it's going to backfire. Then we'll be the recipients of what we've created. Like it or not. Irrespective of our own individual intentions.

6. Americans still make products?
Yeah right, tell me another one about fish this time.

Sorry, we've lost any manufacturing base we had. We just make bombs and bullets now.

7. Amazing considering how cheap US goods are w/the devalue of the $
Of course, I understand the sentiment. I buy on the German market 99% of the time despite the high euro, as I am boycotting the Dallas managed military base PX/BX stores.

10. now if AMERICANS would get on it as well

seriously, we need to pick a few major symbolic brands and shun them entirely. coke, mcdonalds, ford, etc. buy less in general. do no business you don't have to with red states (like, don't take vacations in them).

there are 50 million pissed off Americans. that's enough to make a serious dent in the economy, maybe even take down a few companies and brands. we need to organize to focus this power, and to go after a brand that is made by a company that publicly supported shrub but that can't be salvaged with a girlcott by the christian right

let's work WITH the world on this. yeah it will cost american jobs. that's the point.

13. Won't it be fun for us?
We can ALL have huge bumper stickers that say

"WE TOLD YOU SO" !!!!

Stupid idiots. Well, what can you expect? They all 'followed' the Village Idiot. And idiots don't get any bigger than that.

('Bigger' as in more stupid than anyone else. Didn't want anyone thinking I thought he was above anyone else. lol.)

15. My printer and digicam are HP.
I assure you my next ones will be Epson or Canon.

Oh, and I don't buy HP cartridges -- I use cloned or refilled ones. Despite the horror stories HP will tell you, they work quite well.
