Falluja a 'Big Disaster,' Aid Needed - Red Crescent
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Aid agencies called on U.S. forces and the Iraqi government to allow them to deliver food, medicine and water to Falluja on Friday and said four days of intense fighting had turned the city into a "big disaster."

The Iraqi Red Crescent Society, which receives support from foreign agencies including the Red Cross and UNICEF (news - web sites), said it had asked U.S. forces and Iraq (news - web sites)'s interim government to let them deliver relief goods to Falluja and establish medics there.

But it said it had received no reply.

"We call on the Iraqi government and U.S. forces to allow us to do our humanitarian duty to the innocent people," said Firdoos al-Ubadi, Red Crescent spokeswoman.

2. A U.S. military spokesman said the Red Crescent had permission to
help refugees in towns around Falluja, but could not say if it had been granted access to the city itself.

Is it a difficult question??? Yes or No.

4. more victims
The inocent of Fallujah are just more of the ones hurt by Bush's illeagal war. I read today that Iraq never had Wmd's and never wanted them. Bush cant even invade Fallujah without causing problems.

5. Humanitarian workers put their lives on the line
Edited on Fri Nov-12-04 08:26 AM by AliceWonderland
I wish it were as PC to support the humanitarian workers as it is to support one's troops. I hope the RC gets through and I hope they are safe. I've read reports of people dying from preventable causes (childbirth, snake bite, etc) -- clearly, medical supplies/personnel are badly needed. Sigh. This is what war looks like.

I almost lost it. It made me as depressed as the day of the invasion.

Damn Bush to hell for what he has done to the people of Iraq.

"I'm supposed to shoot into the houses before our troops go in."

"There's no water. People are drinking dirty water. Children are dying. People are eating flour because there's no proper food," he told aid workers in Habbaniya, which has become a refugee camp, with around 2000 families sheltering there.

(snip)

Residents say there are hundreds of dead still lying in the streets "We are in a very tragic situation. Hundreds of dead bodies are spread in the streets. Even the injured are still there. We can not transfer them. We can not do anything to save them.

(snip)

"The US forces have asked us through loudspeakers to get out (of the houses) and raise white flags. But all the city's areas are under fierce bombings.

"We don't know what to do, stay in our place which is under bombardment or get out and get shot," Ali said.

9. Reminds me of Srebenica
"The Americans say they have now cut off all roads and bridges leading out of the city and have turned back hundreds of men who tried to flee the city during the assault.

Only women, children and the elderly are being allowed to leave.

The military says keeping men aged 15 to 55 from leaving is key to the mission's success."
