Secret Service pays visit to Boulder High
http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/local/article/0,1299,DRMN_15_3323602,00.html

Bob Dylan's Masters of War is a hard-hitting, anti-war song produced more than 20 years before any current Boulder High School student was born.

More than 40 years after its release, the song has been resurrected at Boulder High with huge and confusing repercussions that prompted Secret Service agents to pay the campus a visit Thursday.

Some students and parents apparently let the Secret Service and talk-radio stations know they were unhappy with the plan of a trio of students to do a poetry reading of the song, accompanied by background music, according to Ron Cabrera, the school's principal.

Rumors were rampant that during an audition and rehearsal for today's talent show, the students changed Dylan's powerful last verse at the end of the song to say that they hoped that President Bush was going to die.

The last verse begins: "And I hope that you die; And your death'll come soon."

1. Go for it, Kids!
Bob Dylan knew the ilk of Bush & Co. No different (maybe worse) than Nixon et al.

Go Steelers!}(

2. Your tax dollars at work ...
... making our nation safe from high school students who have any political interests whatsoever. (How dare they have a point of view? Shouldn't they be forced to pray?)
/sarcasm :eyes:

4. Yeah....how dare those students think. Another George wrote about
this George many decades ago. Maybe those kid read the first George's book. Naughty kids.

And now those kids get to see how SS people dress and what a real badge looks like up front.

Want to make up a list of questions they might be asked?

5. If that is how they respond and assess
probable threats then they are ignoring any real conceptual threats to Bush and want to be out of Dodge.

If I were Bush, I would worry and wonder about this flurry of useless activity as personally stimulating as he might find it to beat up on protestors.

6. Lyrics ...
Edited on Fri Nov-12-04 10:19 AM by TahitiNut
Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly

Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain

You fasten the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
As young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled

Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

It's remarkable that this is so easily interpreted as anti-Bushbot ... why don't the dittoheads merely assume it's against the 'terra-ists'? After all, only us "radical reactionaries" don't understand that all of these lyrics are about how the 'terra-ists' are recruited by the rich, radical, Islamists, right? :eyes:

I think, in so readily acknowledging that these lyrics apply to the Busholini Regime, they again expose the lies of this maladministration.

In other words, they're seeing the foo shit and wearing it.

7. Well........you can't blame them
for being scared, can you? I mean, they steal the presidency twice, and send so many young men and women to die for no reason but greed, and remake our country's laws to suit themselves, and make sure the poor get poorer while the rich walk off with their money unpunished........and these kids know they'll be drafted soon.

Why wouldn't the SS be scared? They know Bush and Cheney deserve to die.

22. "Arbeit Macht Frei." = = "LABOR LIBERATES"

The entrance to Auschwitz I bears one of the most famous Nazi lies, which greeted prisoners doomed to imprisonment and often death: "Arbeit Macht Frei."

The dishonest "Arbeit Macht Frei" greeted prisoners who entered the Nazi's main administrative camp, Sachsenhausen, where the SS administered the Nazis' vast camp universe in occupied Europe.

At Terezín's "Small Fortress" prison, in the Czech Republic, the sign painted inside the camp boundaries insulted prisoners with the words: "Arbeit Macht Frei."

AND SO IT WILL GO

19. And their principal who supported them!!
Hopefully the *community* won't call for his dismissal.

From the article.

The principal said the students' performance of the song at the talent show upholds their right to express themselves, and he did not think it was inappropriate in a campus setting.

24. Bullshit, it's a SONG
They were not threatening the President.

That's one of the best anti-war songs ever, and it's incredibly relevant.

26. Big Brother .....
I live in Colorado and Boulder is one the more liberal areas. So it was disappointing to hear this. The local news interviewed one of the "concerned" parents and you would have thought the students were planning on killing King George. LOL They said they were joking around. So much for freedom of speech. I'm not old enough to remember Dylan's music - did he get this much reaction when the song first came out?

I can't believe Secret Service was involved and wanted a copy of their music. So this is how they spend their time and our money?
