... is that for the types of tanks the U.S. is likely to encounter, the about 10% penetration boost lent by depleted uranium is not needed. Tungsten-carbide penetrators would still do the job and probably still have plenty of pen capability left over. These rounds might be needed to penetrate the armor of a modern, Chobham-armored MBT, but against aging Soviet tanks ... no.

Not a bad story considering it had to show the "controversial" aspect since Pentagon continues to insist it is "heavy lead" and no connect the dots has yet been proved. I'll be emailing the news station to dump a load of information about depleted uranium on them...
