Friends Who Died Together in Iraq Honored
FRESNO, Calif. -- Childhood friends who enlisted in the Marine Corps together and died together in Iraq were buried side by side.

Jeremiah Baro and Jared Hubbard, who played together, wrestled each other in high school and toughed it out together through boot camp, died Nov. 4, after a roadside bomb exploded. They were in Iraq's Anbar province, where the military was preparing to attack the insurgent stronghold of Fallujah.

Members of the armed forces, classmates from the nearby high school, more than 700 friends and family members packed the church pews and stood pressed against the walls at Thursday's memorial. Many wore red armbands with the Marine motto -- Semper Fi, or always faithful. Friends said the phrase described the young men's dedication to each other and their families as much as it defined their commitment to their country, and to their mission as Marines.

"You couldn't say anything about Jared without saying something about Jeremiah, and you couldn't say something about Jeremiah without saying a little something about Jared," said the Rev. Tim Rolen.

2. Saw a report on ABC News last night
Incredibly sad story about two kids who grew up together, and now, at ages 21 and 22, they're gone forever. They weren't defending freedom, they weren't protecting the United States. They were in the middle of a colossal fuck-up instigated by an evil, greedy, corrupt administration. If there was a dictionary entry for "meaningless death" this story would be a good candidate for the definition.

4. Bush's damn fault
I saw that story too and I kept thinking what a waste. Those poor guys died, and for what? Why? How many more young kids is he gonna let die...and he didn't even have the balls to go to war when he could have. He's disgusting. Sorry, I just hear stuff like that and it just tears me up! :grr:

9. Apparently the two enlisted together...
... right after 9/11, two young men who thought they were going to don the uniform in defense of their country. Little did they know their lying Commander in Chief would send them to Iraq instead.

RIP, Marines.

13. I saw it last night on Nightline
and wanted to slap their parents - they just kept rah-rahhing the war and how everyone needed to keep fighting and dieing for da fuhrer and how wonderful their sacrifice was.

Made me :puke:

:argh:

when people will sacrifice their children for a lost cause and fail to realize they are the ones that have chosen their children's deaths, I become enraged beyond words.

3. My mom was just telling me about these two last night.
She lives in Visalia (about 1/2 hour south of Fresno), and apparently knows someone that is close to the family of one of the guys.

She was pretty upset when she told me about it.

6. Two more:
2 Dade men killed in battle

(requires registration)

"Two South Florida men died this week during the United States' bloody attack on Fallujah, Iraq.

Lance Cpl. Juan Segura, born at Jackson Memorial Hospital, raised in Homestead, a South Dade High student and a Hurricane Andrew survivor, was shot and killed Sunday -- the first day of the campaign into Fallujah.

A second South Miami-Dade man, Sgt. Romulo Jiménez, who grew up in the Redland and graduated from South Dade High, also died in the battle, which so far has taken the lives of 18 U.S. soldiers.

Both men were proud to be Marines. Both had enlisted recently for second tours of duty, family and friends said."

Two Marines from the same area, both graduates from the same highschool, both killed in the battle for Fallujah. What a waste.

14. I think he is done by the end of the year.
You definitely can pickup his distain for this war and *. I've been watching him for many years, and his body language is a dead giveaway. Then again sometimes he has a snort or two. Perhaps he might speak out once he leaves NBC.
