Official: Paige to Leave Education Post

By BEN FELLER, AP Education Writer

WASHINGTON - Education Secretary Rod Paige intends to leave his Cabinet position, a Bush administration official told The Associated Press Friday.

"The secretary has been looking at leaving, and he's been in discussion with the White House about the right time to do so," said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

A Texan like Bush, Paige, 71, rose to prominence as an award-winning superintendent in Houston before becoming the nation's first black education secretary. He has been an outspoken defender of No Child Left Behind, the education law at the center of Bush's domestic agenda.

Paige would be the third member of the Bush Cabinet to make plans to leave since the president won a second term. Attorney General John Ashcroft and Commerce Secretary Don Evans also are departing.

3. Well, Crisco Johnny left because all terrorism has been defeated
I guess now that all kids have a good education in up-to-date classrooms with small classes and well-paid teachers, Paige's mission is accomplished.

Golly, what's left for George's second term but more tax cuts for his overrich pals?

5. when will Powell go bye-bye?
despite his caving in to the bush* doctrine on many occassions -- I still think he's about the only "steady" one of the group

wonder when the books will be out -- the ones written by the unpatriotic, disgruntled ex-employees-soon-to-be-smeared?

7. Paige will probably move on to some ridiculously
overpaid position at a school district while the buildings fall apart. Or he'll take a consulting job advising school districts to cram 45 kindergartners into each class so they can close a school.

Good riddance, I hope (the next one isn't worse).

10. If a moron leaves a position...
does it make a sound? It's a philosophical question I've been pondering lately.

As a teacher, I say, "Fuck you very much for your service to your country, Rod!"

By the way, AP, Bush is NOT a Texan. He was born and raised in New England. Geez!

14. Oh, golly,
hadn't thought quite that far. Which one of those Bush brothers is now messing around with educational software? Neilsie? In Bushworld, that would certainly qualify him for the position.
